New Product Development Engineer

Job Summary

The New Product Development Engineer is responsible for the research, design, and engineering of new products to add to OPTOs first class collections of standard products.

From market research to trend analysis this position formulates what new design our industry is looking for that OPTO can manufacture and then designs the fixtures from concepts through prototyping.

To be successful in this position you need to be innovative, creative, and analytical.

Key Responsibilities

Create design concept to determine most viable designs

Present product ideas to relevant team members for brainstorming

Engineer concepts thought prototyping and final designs

Research and stay up to date on industry and customer trends to determine what unique solutions customers require

Perform research on product technologies to implement into design concepts

Required Technical Skills

5+ years of expertise in retail store fixture design or equivalent

Extensive knowledge of designing with a wide range of materials such as wood, metal, acrylics, aluminum, glass, etc.

Working knowledge and understanding of lighting, extrusion design, castings, and modular integration

Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Industrial Design

Proficient with 3D modeling software, preferably Autodesk Inventor

Computer skills including working knowledge of Excel, Word, & Powerpoint

Ability to problem-solve quickly and effectively

Ability to produce under tight timelines

Ability to prioritize and work independently on multiple projects simultaneously ensuring all key dates are met while maintaining the highest level of quality.

Working understanding of ERP software

Excellent eye for aesthetic design, customer appeal, and attention to detail

Ability to communicate quickly, clearly, and effectively across multiple departments

Confidently interact with customers, peers, and cross functional teams

Ability to work successfully in a strong team environment
