The Legislative Assistant / Receptionist plays a crucial role in providing administrative support and exceptional client service.
In this position, you can expect to manage phone calls and emails, schedule appointments, interact directly with clients in a professional and welcoming environment, and assist with document preparation.
This position reports on-site to our Washington, D.C. office.
Responsibilities
- Research and write legislative correspondence and conduct legislative research.
- Track advancement of bills through the legislative process, including monitoring and attending committee hearings, securing committee testimony and records preparation.
- Prepare briefing documents for clients to use when meeting with members of Congress and / or Federal agencies.
- Assist attorneys and lobbyists with legislative projects, as needed.
- Administrative tasks may include answering the phones on occasion, handling expense reports, handling travel arrangements, and other administrative tasks, as necessary.
- Handle the firm’s PAC requests.
- Make appointment requests with Members of Congress and officials at Federal agencies, as necessary.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or Equivalent; bachelor's degree preferred.
- Proficiency with MS Office products, including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
- Strong communication skills, both written and oral, with careful attention to grammar, spelling and punctuation.
- Minimum 2-years' experience in a professional setting; prior legal secretary or related experience preferred.
- Ability to work with legal technology, i.e., court filings, document management program, computer systems, transcription software.
