ABOUT THE COMPANY
SC Steel, LLC was established January 2, 2018, as a subsidiary of FabSouth and acquired the assets of SMI-Owen Steel Company, Inc.
on April 1, 2018. SMI-Owen Steel Company had owned the business since 1994 when they acquired it from South Carolina Steel Company.
The Upstate South Carolina facility has been in operation at this location since 1952.
JOB OVERVIEW
We are looking for a motivated leader to supervise a multi-faceted group of people with varying responsibilities and skills.
This department combines all of the aspects of an entire structural steel fabrication plant. The supervisor must manage parts making equipment, supply parts to other departments in the plant, and manage the assembly, welding, and coatings operations for small fabrication pieces (such as roof frames and embed plates and angles).
The supervisor must be able to manage competing priorities and multiple lots of work on multiple pieces of equipment / stages of fabrication while balancing the needs of the individual department with the needs of the overall plant.
Communication is a key skill that the supervisor must utilize in their daily activities.
RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Maintain a departmental accident incidence rate of 2.0 or less
- Maintain productivity above 90%
- Reduce Quality Error Costs by 50%
COMPENSATION :
Pay will be established based upon the candidate’s individual qualifications and history of performance and pay.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- EDUCATION / TRAINING : High School Diploma or GED
- EXPERIENCE : Minimum 3 years in Steel industry or related field
- OTHER : Ability to read and interpret structural drawings

DESIRED TRAITS
- Supervisory Training and / or experience
- Excellent organizational skills
- Good mechanical aptitude
- Working knowledge of computers and computer software, including Microsoft Office applications
- Experience with CNC Equipment
- Production supervisory experience (This may be obtained by filling in for a supervisor on vacation, at training, etc.)
- Possess teaching and training skills to perform one-on-one and group training
- Able to lead, motivate, and inspire employees to work within a team environment.
- Experience with machine uptime strategies, standard operating procedures, and operator preventative maintenance procedures
- Experience with assembly operations and job-shop scheduling - structural steel fabrication experience is a plus
- Ability to interpret data to come to conclusions when all of the information is not available
- Teaching and training skills to perform one-on-one and group training

- Daily communication with other supervisors including :
- Production status including warnings when the production plan is not being met
- Batches of work available for fabrication
