SUMMARY

The Quality Engineer I position is an entry-level position that requires fundamental knowledge of engineering principles and begins to develop specific application knowledge and skills of QA / QC principles through training and work assignments.

This position provides technical support to the new manufacturing and repair organizations to ensure that product and processes meet various requirements and, it assumes responsibility for monitoring and controlling the quality of the process and / or product assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Perform root cause analysis and, leads corrective and preventive action initiatives

Collect and analyze production process data, interpreting trends, to eliminate unnecessary processes and to minimize process variation.

Support new product development thorough FAI planning, scheduling, and regular team meetings

Finalize product inspection procedures and perform inspections when necessary.

Ensure proper use of tool and gauging and that calibration requirements are met.

Establish and / or support quality related training programs and techniques.

Monitor, maintain, and participate in the NCR / CAR processes.

Provide regular KPIs on-time to various level of the organization

Generate reports of findings and recommendations.

Ensure ISO compliance by maintaining / creating processes and documentation

Perform root cause analysis and leads corrective and preventive action initiatives

Contributes to organizational by reducing process variation, accomplished through data interpretation, process knowledge, technical knowledge

Generate Quality related procedures and specifications to support the Quality Management System

Perform gauge R&R and construct operation and gauge performance history

Perform work station audits to oversee SPC and quality certification of the operator and process

Make judgment on inspection findings and make technical recommendations.

Train new inspectors and operators.

Perform other such duties as may be required.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures reporting all unsafe activities to Management and / or Human Resources.

Communicate effectively with subordinates and management at all levels.

Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.

Contribute to building a positive team spirit.

Apply effective written and verbal communication.

Protect confidential information by not communicating, disclosing, or using for benefit of 3rd parties.

Maintain the highest degree of honesty and integrity at all times.

Support nights and weekends to uphold customer needs and project / production schedules.

Travel (up to 15%) by land and / or air.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EDUCATION

Education and / or Experience : Bachelor's degree (BA) in Engineering from four-year college or university (preferable); or at least three (3) years related experience and / or training;

or equivalent combination of education and experience in a mechanical component manufacturing environment.

Below are more specific knowledge and experience desired for this position :

Strong manufacturing / industrial background, specifically within the gas turbine industry

Ability to understand specifications and drawings.

Statistical process control (SPC), design of experiments, gauge repeatability / reproducibility.

Root cause analysis and corrective action tools

Measurement system error and gauge suitability evaluation

Lab equipment and metallography processes a plus specifically as they relate to thermal barrier coatings, EDM, and weld / braze specimens for acceptance.

Language Skills : Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence.

Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills : Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations.

Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

Proficiency with trigonometry and geometry required. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Reasoning Ability : Ability to define problems, collect and analyze data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Computer Skills : Knowledge of database, project management, spreadsheet, and word processing software, electronic mail, statistical software, graphics, technical diagrams, flow charts, etc.

SPC, CMM software and / programming essential.

Certifications : The position requires certification as a Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), within six months of employment.

Additional certifications in Nondestructive Testing and / or Welding Inspection (AWS / CWI) are highly desirable.

The employee may be required to adhere to Mitsubishi Power and customer safety procedures including but not limited to, the use of personal protection equipment (hardhat, safety glasses, goggles, hearing and fall protection).
