Now hiring a Sports Instructor at McCormick YMCA!

As a Sports Instructor at the YMCA, you will play a crucial role in facilitating engaging and inclusive sports programs for individuals of all ages.

This position requires a passion for sports, excellent organizational skills, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to upholding the values and standards of the YMCA.

This role involves a combination of indoor and outdoor activities, and the Sports Instructor may need to lift and carry sports equipment.

The position may require flexible hours, including evenings, to accommodate program schedules.

Salary range is $16.20-$18.00 per hour

Responsibilities :

  • Facilitate Sports Programs :
  • Lead and coordinate various sports programs, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for participants.
  • Instruct and demonstrate proper techniques and rules for a range of sports activities.
  • Equipment Management :
  • Maintain and organize sports equipment and supplies, ensuring their proper use and storage.
  • Conduct regular equipment inspections and report any maintenance needs to the appropriate channels.
  • Enforcement of Rules and Standards :
  • Enforce program-specific rules and standards, promoting a positive and respectful environment.
  • Uphold YMCA rules and policies to ensure a safe and inclusive atmosphere for all participants.
  • Curriculum Implementation :
  • Work with youth, teens, and occasionally adults, following established curriculum or activity agendas.
  • Foster skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship through structured programs.
  • Participant Engagement :
  • Interact with participants, providing encouragement and support to enhance their experience.
  • Address participant concerns and inquiries professionally and promptly.
  • Collaboration :
  • Collaborate with other YMCA staff to ensure the smooth operation of programs and activities.
  • Attend staff meetings and training sessions to stay informed about program updates and YMCA policies.

Requirements :

  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Passion for sports and physical fitness
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Must have prior experience sports / specialty experience (i.e. Playing, Coaching, etc.)
  • Ability to work with diverse age groups and adapt instruction to different skill levels
  • First Aid / CPR certifications preferred.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to YMCA mission and values

Child Abuse Prevention - Supports the YMCA's commitment to child abuse prevention by :

  • Reporting any items that may provide a health or safety hazard to staff, members or guests to your supervisor
  • Following all policies and procedures related to keeping children safe in our facilities and programs, including those related to the monitoring and supervision of children
  • Reporting any suspicious behavior and violation of policy and procedures to your supervisor
  • Completing all child abuse prevention training as required
