The Opportunity with McKinstry
We are currently seeking a Senior Construction Estimator to join our New Construction team in Portland, OR . In this role, you will lead estimating work with sales, engineering and operations teams.
Additionally, some responsibilities you will have include :
Estimates
- Contributes to the development of project cost estimates based on schematic and / or detailed designs.
- Responsible for performing complete ductwork takeoffs using Autobid Sheet metal.
- Requires complete ownership for operating and maintaining all aspects of the Autobid Sheet Metal software including the takeoff application as well as material and labor databases.
- Responsible for counting dry-side equipment and specialties and for data entry into estimates.
- Performs subcontractor and vendor quote reviews.
- Identifies and compiles job-specific clarifications and exclusions to be included in proposal letters.
- Has ability to develop initial budgets and estimates with no engineering drawings or specifications.
- Maintains current and historical construction cost and bid result data bases.
Communication
- Assists in the development of requests for proposals for subcontractors and vendors.
- Responsible for discussions and meetings with subcontractors, vendors, architects, customers and management.
- Evaluates and communicates project risk.
- Identifies and secures prospective business consistent with the company's strategy.
What You Need to Succeed at McKinstry
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical, construction management or related field required or equivalent work experience.
- Eight (8) years of experience in estimating and conceptual estimating.
- Must have demonstrated proficiency in all responsibilities of an estimator.
- Must have demonstrated ability to do both conceptual estimating as well as take-off estimates.
- Working knowledge of Accubid, preferred
- Knowledge of building systems, and applications and how to successfully apply that knowledge to solve client and project requirements required.
- Knowledge of project Financials and reporting policies preferred.
What You Need to Succeed at McKinstry
- Must demonstrate proficiency in all aspects of sheet metal estimating.
- Must be capable of developing estimates based on fully-designed project documents as well as conceptual and / or schematic designs.
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, construction management or equivalent work experience required. Field experience in mechanical construction is preferred.
- Eight (8) years of experience in mechanical estimating for projects $15 million dollars and larger is required.
- Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite - Word, Excel and Outlook required. Advanced experience with excel is preferred.
- Advanced knowledge of Autobid Sheetmetal estimating software and database management required.
- Knowledge of mechanical systems and project constructability required.

The pay range for this position is $84,240 - $130,680 per year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
A bonus may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and / or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
Base pay information is based on market location.
