Job DescriptionAssists the professional staff with the delivery of services to patients in a variety of settings.Provides direct patient care, and / or one to one observation to selected patients under the supervision of a Registered Professional Nurse.

Assists, escorts and transports patients.QualificationsEducation requirements : Graduate from an approved Medical Assistant Program or equivalent.

High school diploma or equivalent required.American Heart Association BLS CertificationExperience requirements : Medical Assistant experience preferredSpanish speaking preferred,Ability to read, write and comprehend English.

Clinical / Technical / ServiceAssists the professional staff with the delivery of services to patients in a variety of settingsProvides direct patient care, including all vital signs, pulse oximetry and assist with ADL.

Performs Patient observations : Safety and Constant / One to One observation to selected patients under the supervision of a Registered Professional NurseAssists, escorts and transports patientsPerforms and assists with designated procedures, using aseptic technique as indicatedAssists with patients’ examinationsObtains and provides nourishment for patientsProvides minor treatments as directed - dressings, application of ace bandages, applications of slings and ice, pediculosisAssists with application of casts and splintsPrepares, adjusts and teaches the use of crutches and canesIs cognizant of the need for safety devices;

applies or assists with applicationCollects specimens, performs venipunctures and fingersticks for blood glucoseObtains EKGs as orderedAssists patients to get needed services by communicating those needs to the nurseCommunicates information to patients, families and visitorsProvides post-mortem careSets-up, stocks, and maintains examining roomsPerforms eye irrigationsMaintains BCLS certification as required by EMS standardsDemonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served in assigned areaAge Specific Competencies (Neonate / Infant, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult, Geriatric)Identifies physical, behavioral and emotional characteristics typical for the age groupModifies approaches based on patient age-specific needs and responses to treatmentProvides care for patients based on age-specific needsUses communication techniques which are age appropriateB.
