Our Natural Resource Team is seeking an Environmental Science Intern - Summer 2024 to work out of Wilmington, NC office. This temporary position is seeking individuals currently enrolled in an Undergraduate or Graduate program with an anticipated graduation date of August 2024 or later.

This 12 week internship will be part of the WSP Summer Internship Program that is scheduled to start on May 20th, 2024. The individual start date of the internship may be flexible.

Your Impact

  • Support a variety of environmental tasks with the goal to develop technical, social, and ethical skills.
  • Learn basic principles of wetland delineations, habitat assessments, and jurisdictional determinations.
  • Assist with project research, field work, and report writing and analysis.
  • Support preparation of wetland and stream data forms, photo documents, and NCWAM / NCSAM evaluations.
  • Assist in collecting and maintaining project documentation.
  • Complete training on assigned tasks.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
  • Please note that there is no relocation or housing assistance associated with this internship.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Actively enrolled in an accredited bachelors in Environmental Science, or related, Undergraduate program.
  • Demonstrated interest in wetland delineations, habitat assessments, or related field, and have a strong desire to advance skills related to WSP’s work and projects.
  • Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Capable of taking direction from leadership, mentors, and managers to executive projects.
  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug / alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Authorization to work in the United States at the start of the internship.
  • Must have some studies or practical experience in earth and / or wetland science
  • Must possess strong technical verbal and technical writing skills, and be able to read technical literature and / or engineering plans

  • Must be capable and willing to performing field tasks in all types of weather in often demanding outdoor conditions and terrain

Preferred Qualifications

  • Actively enrolled in an accredited bachelors in Environmental Science, or related, Masters or PhD program.
  • Experience using GPS units and ArcGIS.
  • Prior internship and leadership involvement on campus.
  • Must successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening.
  • This role is subject to a client-mandated drug / alcohol testing policy. As such, employee may be subject to random drug / alcohol tests.
