Position Summary :

The primary job responsibilities of the Mechanic is to be responsible and accountable for providing quality mechanical repairs and maintenance work up to their level of certification, utilizing all resources available within the shop area.

The Mechanic will provide ongoing preventive maintenance to include all emergency repairs and roadwork necessary. The primary objective of the Mechanic is to provide a safe, qualified shop environment for himself as well as other mechanics while being available to answer questions both to the field personnel and supervisors.

Must provide their own basic hand tools.

Starting Pay : $28.00-$33.15 / Hr. (Depending on Experience)

Essential Functions :

The Mechanic may be assigned one or more duties. These duties may include, but are not limited to, the following :

  • Perform skilled mechanical repair and overhaul work on all types of fleet equipment such as emergency response vehicles and support vehicles, gasoline engines, patient handling and safety equipment in accordance with standard trade practices.
  • Repair, rebuild, or replace various types of hydraulic equipment such as pumps, hoses, cylinders, jacks, and other related parts and various types of transmissions, including automatic, manual drive systems and their related components.
  • Perform skilled diagnostic, including electrical, and repair procedures on standard and electronic ignition systems, along with computerized fuel injection, and total vehicle electrical systems.
  • Prepare, pre inspect and inspect vehicles and equipment. Perform preventative maintenance on any and all equipment including : engine oil changes, chassis lubrication, check and replenish other fluids as needed.

Repair or replace as needed : lights, brakes and related parts, tires and tubes, chassis parts, mounted vehicle components or any other system or component (both interior and exterior).

  • Respond to service calls as needed. Make repairs in the field when possible. Tow vehicles if necessary.
  • Install and repair safety equipment, emergency lighting and accessories, light bars, spots lights, emergency equipment, communication system and related vehicle wiring.
  • Weld and modify equipment, including fabrication of parts as needed.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of parts.
  • Follow proper procedures for creating requisitions, obtaining repair service parts and supplies, producing and maintaining records of labor, parts and supplies used in work production.
  • Test and inspect completed work to assure proper performance and timely completion.
  • Complete proper record keeping in electronic format.

Qualifications :

The individual in this position must possess the following qualifications :

  • Current, valid state issued driver license.
  • Satisfactory driving record in accordance with Falck USA Driving Policy.
  • Minimum three (3) years of work with gasoline equipment experience as an "A" automotive mechanic and use of all the latest testing equipment.
  • ASE certified preferred.

Education Requirements :

The individual in this position must possess the following education requirements :

Two (2) years of technical school training in gasoline engine repair preferred.

Physical Requirements :

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Occasionally : Must be able to lift, carry and balance up to 75 pounds, walking outside, pushing, pulling, climbing, carrying, sitting, flexibility.

Frequently : Good manual dexterity, with the ability to perform all tasks related to the position of Mechanic. Hearing / listening- ability to distinguish between sounds / noises that can be identified, clear speech, smelling, walking inside, lifting, reaching, kneeling, stooping, bending, and driving company vehicles.

Spatial judgment and ability to extend arms overhead for extended periods of time.

Constantly : Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time, hand-eye-foot coordination and color recognition.

Cognitive / Psychosocial Requirements :

The mental demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

The Mechanic must be able to read, write, speak and understand English. Must have the ability to write legibly, maintain records and complete reports, understand and carry out moderately complex oral and written instructions.

Demonstrate good critical judgment and strategic decision making, ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal formats.

Equipment Operated :

The individual in this position must be familiar with using the following equipment to perform the essential functions of this job.

Occasionally : Copy machine, fax machine, telephone, pager, wheelchair, gurney, hydraulic lift, welders, torches, brake lathe, tire balancer.

Frequently : Mobile phone, clock, company vehicles, diagnostic scanners and testing equipment.

Constantly : Hand tools, electrical tools, computer.

Working Conditions :

The Mechanic also occasionally works in extreme hot or cold, temperature changes, noise, fumes / odors / mists, confined spaces, and near moving parts.

Driving approximately 10% of time.

Environmental Conditions :

Except where appropriate and conducive to accomplishing the goals and objectives of a particular task (such as in an emergency situation) the Mechanic will work in an area that is well lighted and ventilated and is as physically and psychologically innocuous as possible under the conditions which exist at a particular time.

Because the essential function of the job of Mechanic may require exposure to hazardous materials as well as infectious waste, diseases, odors and other situations associated with health care, including but not limited to exposure to AIDS, HIV and Hepatitis B viruses involving Risk Classification Category 3, environmental conditions will fluctuate
