Responsibilities JOB SUMMARY : Participates in ongoing educational assessments of patients. Provides instruction to patients while maintaining an orderly and disciplined structure in the classroom.
Develops special interventions for patients unable to function within the classroom setting. Assists in curriculum development.
Participates in patient treatment planning and staffings when necessary. Understands the basic growth and development milestones with appropriate interventions specific to the age and population served.
Completes patient lesson plans. Completes and maintains all records as required. Maintains an adequate supply of appropriate instructional materials relative to patient’s age and functioning level.

Education : Bachelor’s Degree required, Masters preferred. Experience : One year teaching ED / BD children and / or adolescents preferred.
Licensure / Certification : Valid PEL, Illinois teaching certificate required; certification in Special Education preferred.
Knowledge : Prefer knowledge of effective teaching skills and educational strategies with a special education population, individual and group management skills, therapeutic relationships and processes, age specific growth and development, limit setting and crisis and behavior management.
Supervision Received : Director of Academy Supervision Exercised : None Line of Promotion : Director of Academy Working Conditions : Exposure to psychiatric patients who may exhibit violent / aggressive behavior.
Potential for exposure to communicable diseases, blood / body fluids and other hazardous waste. General hospital environment.
Physical Requirements : Ability to communicate verbally and in writing. Physical agility to manage patients. Push, pull and lift up to 50 pounds.
