DESCRIPTION

Michael Baker is actively seeking a Bridge Department Manager to join our Structural / Bridge team in Phoenix, AZ. This position will be responsible for delivery of existing bridge projects within the Arizona and surrounding area or our western region while helping grow our bridge practice through support to business development activities and building client relationships.

Certain of our work is traditional bridge design assignments and other work will be supporting a broader team on complex bridge projects.

In this role you will lead, manage, and perform design and analysis as well as other structural engineering tasks for bridge systems and components associated with our client transportation needs.

Your role will be supported by our Regional Bridge Practice Lead to assist with business development activities, workshare with other Michael Baker offices, project delivery and client relationship building as needed.

  • Participate in development of the bridge / structure department including building growth and capture strategies in cooperation with the office executive.
  • Perform structural analysis and prepare design deliverables with responsibility for successful contracting and project execution.
  • Develop or assist in developing structural details and construction plans using a variety of industry standard software packages.
  • Assist and check design calculations performed by others
  • Prepare geometric / bridge layouts, construction specifications, and material quantity calculations.
  • Manage client relationships and client engagement to best serve the interests of the client and Michael Baker.
  • Support business development activities including positioning strategy and proposal development as part of the pursuit team.
  • Participate in client-based and other industry related organizations .
  • Supervise and train other structural engineering staff with less experience.
  • Successfully interface with staff from a range of other disciplines (traffic, civil, planning, etc.) to support a diverse range of projects.
  • Share knowledge with project, office, and company staff as appropriate

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil / Structural Engineering; Master's degree is highly preferred
  • Professional Engineer (PE) licensed in the State of Arizona; SE license desirable.
  • 15+ years of experience in structural engineering
  • Strong background in ownership, initiative and dedication to high quality engineering services and client deliverables
  • Demonstrated ability to build trusted relationships with clients and consultant partners.
  • Strong all-around theoretical knowledge of structural engineering principles
  • Strong people skills and an ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment
  • Experience with AASHTO LRFD, AISC, ACI, AREMA, CAN / CSA S-6, and other North American design codes
  • Experience with the design of multiple bridge types in concrete and steel, knowledge of staged construction analysis, and familiarity with alternative materials like FRP, UHPC, Cathodic protection preferred.
  • Familiarity with bridge inspection practices (FHWA BIRM) and standards including NBIS and SNBI are preferred but not required.
  • Solid background and understanding of structural engineering software packages like : Leap Bridge suite, RC-Pier, MIDAS, CSI Bridge, SAP2000, FB Pier, MDX, BrR and others.
  • Preferred experience with CAD software including basic AutoCAD and MicroStation. Experience with Autodesk Civil 3D, Bentley OBM, InfraWorks, AllPlan and / or SOFiSTiK are a plus.
  • Ability to travel as business requires, up to 20%
  • Experience with Design-Build delivery, desirable
  • Familiarity with AASHTO LRFD Bridge design specifications; preferred
  • Experience with ADOT or ADOT bridge plan layout; preferred

COMPENSATION

The approximate range for this position is $100,942 - 216,543. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting.

Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
