The Library is hiring a full-time Collection Development Librarian for the Dauphin County Library System. The Collection Development Librarian is responsible for selecting materials for all locations of The Library with an eye to the needs of the Capital Area Library District, as well as the oversight of other selectors.
This position receives member requests for purchase and actively communicates with the public. This position works as part of a team to allot the materials budget into funds based on genre, topic, or format.
As part of Dauphin County Library System (The Library’s) Strategic Plan, this position will actively participate in the diversity audit of the collection.
Educational Requirements / Qualifications :
Education : American Library Association accredited MLS degree or MLIS degree recognized by The Office of Commonwealth Libraries / PA Department of Education.
Must possess a knowledge of generally accepted library practices for selection, deselection and purchasing of library materials and an ability to link this knowledge to the needs of a mid-size public library system such as The Library.
Experience : Requires experience of general accepted library practices for selection, deselection, and purchasing of materials.
Two years active experience using MS Office Suite or equivalent and searching the Internet in a Windows environment.
Required Skills : Excellent customer service and communication skills, ability to lift 25 lbs. unassisted. Requires independent transportation for travel to libraries, programs, and outreach locations.
