Lihir Operation is a tier-one open cut mining operation based on Aniolam island, in the Lihir Group of Islands, located in New Ireland Province approximately 800km north of Port Moresby.
It is one of the world's largest producing gold mines and is located on a geothermally active extinct volcanic crater. Production first commenced in 1997.
The operation consists of an open pit mine producing refractory ore, which is treated using pressure oxidation before the gold is recovered by a conventional leach process.
Your role will consist of :
- Driving and influencing proactive safety behaviours within workgroups through visible leadership.
- Ensuring all personnel, visitors and contractors comply with site and contractual HSE requirements and hold people accountable for adherence.
- Planning work so that it can be conducted safely; and considers environmental conditions, nearby activities, and the people and other resources needed to complete the work.
- Ensuring the Process Plant control centres are fully functional and delivering to plan including Crushers and Conveyors;
HGO1&2; FGO; Autoclaves; and NCA1&2 and electrowinning cells.
- Monitoring breakdown events through the shift and monitors utilisation of equipment to ensure targets are being met.
- Identifying any DCS issues / optimisation opportunities & facilitate the changes with the help of the DCS engineering team
- Raising Work Notifications for any defects found in the area, ensuring that any non-resolved issues are escalated.
- Ensuring CRO's capture and raise issues within the fixed plant e.g. process control issues, process control improvements, alarm management issues.
- Ensuring plant operates within designated control bands and is checked for compliance using short interval control processes
- Assisting operational teams troubleshoot
Your training, skills and experience checklist
Here is what we would need to see from you!
- Minimum level of Grade 12 education certificate essential.
- Certificates / Statements of Attainment in relevant Metalliferous processing competencies desirable.
- PNG Class 1 license essential.
- 5+ years relevant work experience essential in large scale mining & concentrator environment essential.
- Previous experience working in a remote location in a developing country advantageous, but not essential.
- Experience with modern maintenance techniques and computerised maintenance systems including Foxboro control systems or other DCS essential.
- Proficient in English with excellent verbal, written communication and public speaking skills.
- Computer proficiency in MS Office suite.
- Sound planning, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work under pressure and autonomously.
- Excellent attention to detail and time management skills to meet deadlines.
- Strong active listening & interpersonal skills for rapport building, conflict resolution & training.
- Be able to work a FIFO roster
- Ability to complete a pre-employment medical assessment
- Must be able to complete a National Police Check & Navex Risk Rate Screening
Working conditions and location
This role is offered on a 22 : 20 Fly in, Fly out (FIFO) roster from multiple locations in PNG to Lihir island.
