SPECIAL NOTES :

High School Diploma or equivalency is required.

Additional requirements :

  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Five (5) years’ experience in the construction, installation, inspection, operation, maintenance, or repair of high pressure, high temperature water boilers.
  • Must hold a commission from the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors.
  • Two (2) years of supervisory experience.
  • Must reside within a 150-mile radius of the Tallahassee office.

Preference may be given to candidates with an associate degree from an accredited college or university.

This position requires a security background check, including fingerprint as a condition of employment.

Employees of the Department of Financial Services are paid on a monthly pay cycle.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR THIS POSITION INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING REQUIRED ENTRY LEVEL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES :

  • Knowledge of boiler and pressure vessel construction, operation and maintenance; state requirements, National Board and Pressure Vessel Inspector requirements, and American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) boiler and pressure vessel codes;
  • collect, review and verify data relating to boiler inspections; understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures relating to boiler inspections;
  • perform hydrostatic tests; review and approve drawings and calculations; plan, organize and coordinate work assignments;
  • supervise effectively; coordinate work tasks and work flow; prepare reports; make independent decisions; communicate effectively;

deal with the public in a tactful and courteous manner; establish and maintain effective work relationships with others.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES :

Incumbent of position is a member of DFS’ Disaster Response Team and, in that capacity, may be required on short notice to perform duties and necessary attendant travel in support of disaster relief efforts.)

This position is responsible for the management, planning, organization and directing of the activities of Deputy Boiler Inspectors assigned to the Boiler Safety Program statewide.

Plans, organizes, and directs the inspection of boiler in places of public assembly as described in Chapter 554, Florida Statutes.

Perform required inspections in the Northwest part of the State of boilers in places of public assembly in accordance with Chapter 554, Florida Statutes.

Provides direct and overall planning, direction and supervision of all employees and activities of the section by formulating and administering policies and procedures for the section.

The position is for examination and certification of boiler inspectors, directs the inspection activities of the Deputy Boiler Inspectors to ensure that the division’s policies are applied, reports are properly prepared, consistent, and uniform application of the codes and checks records of work completed.

Coordinates the scheduling of required inspections. The incumbent of this position is considered to have regulatory responsibilities subject to the provisions of Chapter 22SM-2, Florida Administrative Code and other related duties as directed.

Continually review the boiler program’s processes for opportunities to streamline and reducing service delivery times. Assembles statistical data on boiler inspection activities.

Prepares correspondence as required on material related to the Boiler Inspection Program.

Prepare for adoption, statutory and rule revisions for the inspection, construction, installation, repair of boilers to ensure consistency with the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the National Board Inspection Code.

Approves designs and construction of pressure vessels. Responds to complaints taking action to enforce Chapter 554, Florida Statutes, and administrative rules.

Responds to questions from licensed individuals, other governmental authorities, fire service and the public regarding statutory and rule interpretations and making policy decisions in individual situations.

Conducts American Society of Mechanical Engineers and National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors reviews for new issuance and renewal of ASME and National Board Certificates of Authorization.

Represents the Division at conferences, prepares, and presents training materials and seminars as required.

The incumbent of this position is a member of DFS’s disaster response team and in that capacity may be required, on short notice, to perform duties and necessary attendant travel in support of disaster relief efforts.
