THE COMPANY :

Element Science, Inc. is a medical device and digital health company focused on developing solutions at the intersection of clinical-grade wearables, machine learning algorithms, and lifesaving therapies in order to address leading causes of death and hospitalization in patients with heart disease, primarily as they transition from the hospital-to-home.

By putting the needs of patients and physicians first, our personalized digital devices, which are designed for function, comfort, and ease-of-use, aim to redefine the paradigm of care for these patients.

Our first product, a wearable patch defibrillator, is initially targeted at treating the more than 500,000 patients in the US with an elevated temporary risk of potentially experiencing a lethal heart rhythm.

Based in San Francisco, our funders include Third Rock Ventures, Google Ventures, Deerfield Healthcare, Qiming Venture Partners USA, Cormorant Asset Management, and Invus Opportunities.

SUMMARY OF ROLE :

The Senior Director, Commercial Operations will oversee all aspects of the supply chain function within a Durable Medical Equipment (DME) environment, with a particular focus on Reverse Logistics, Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP), and Inventory Management.

This senior leadership position is both strategic and tactical hands-on will be responsible for building and implementing strategies to optimize supply chain efficiency, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and supporting the company's strategic objectives.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in supply chain management within a DME or similar highly regulated industry.

RESPONSIBILITIES :

Strategic Leadership :

  • Develop and execute supply chain strategies that support the company's overall business objectives.
  • Provide leadership and direction to the supply chain team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence.

Reverse Logistics :

  • Oversee all aspects of reverse logistics, including product returns, refurbishments, recalls, and disposal.
  • Develop and implement efficient processes for handling returned products to minimize costs and maximize recovery value.

Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) :

  • Lead the S&OP process, ensuring alignment between sales forecasts, production planning, and inventory management.
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams to balance supply and demand, optimize inventory levels, and improve service levels.

Inventory Management :

  • Develop and implement inventory management strategies to ensure optimal stock levels, minimize excess inventory, and avoid stockouts.
  • Utilize advanced inventory management techniques and technologies to enhance inventory accuracy and visibility.

Compliance and Quality Assurance :

  • Ensure all supply chain activities comply with relevant regulatory requirements and quality standards.
  • Implement robust quality assurance processes to maintain high standards of product quality and safety.

Operational Efficiency :

  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance supply chain efficiency and reduce operational costs.
  • Utilize data analytics and key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor and improve supply chain performance.

Vendor and Supplier Management :

  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers and vendors.
  • Negotiate contracts and agreements to secure favorable terms and conditions.

Team Development :

  • Build and develop a high-performing supply chain team through effective hiring, training, and performance management.
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive team environment that encourages innovation and professional growth.

Management of Personnel :

  • Oversee personnel who will be responsible for managing warehouse, logistics, and facilities operations as well as supply chain and planning.
  • Provide guidance and support to personnel in building and implementing strategies to optimize warehouse and logistics operations.
  • Ensure facilities management aligns with overall company goals and operational requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in supply chain management, with at least 10 years in a senior leadership role.
  • Extensive experience in the DME industry or other highly regulated environments.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing reverse logistics, S&OP, and inventory management functions.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory requirements and quality standards related to medical devices.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in supply chain management software and tools.

  • The salary for this exempt-level position will be based on experience and qualifications within an established pay range.
  • Pay Range : $230,000 - $250,000 + Annual Bonus
