Job Title Horse Center Crew Member Job Location Corvallis This recruitment will be used to create a pool of part-time (a maximum of 20 hours per week) Horse Center Crew Member positions for the Department of Animal and Rangeland Sciences at Oregon State University (OSU ).
This position is for the care and maintenance of animals. Typical duties include daily feeding, watering, and turn out of horses, as well as cleaning stalls.
The employee will perform weekly tasks and projects around the Horse Center, as needed.
Work is performed in barns and outdoors at the OSU Horse Center located on NW Walnut Dr. in Corvallis, OR. Position Duties
- Assist with putting out horses from stock pen to pasture or bringing them back in at night.
- Follow feed schedule and guidelines.
- Clean stalls and aisles in barns.
- Maintain horse stall bedding.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Because the work location is off campus, employees must have reliable form of transportation to get to the horse center facilities.

Preferred (Special) Qualifications
- Must be dependable, possess a strong work ethic and be able to work without supervision in a team setting.
- Must possess strong communication skills and the ability to follow directions.
- Have a willingness to learn and complete any and all assigned tasks.
Preference will be given to student applicants who have previous experience working with horses including :
- The ability to recognize illness, colic, lameness or other ailments.
- Experience handling a wide variety of horses including young stock.
- Aptitude to recognize behavior changes
- Knowledge of feed identification and nutrition basics.
- Basic equine first aid skills.
- Work is performed in barns and outdoors at the OSU Horse Center located on NW Walnut Dr. in Corvallis. Because the work location is off campus, employees must have reliable form of transportation to get to the horse center facilities.
- Employee may have exposure to noxious odors, infectious diseases, chemicals, loud noises, wet and slippery floors, or machinery.
- Employee will be exposed to inclement weather conditions.
- Employee may need to maneuver items that weigh up to 50 lbs.
- Employee may be required to stoop, bend and kneel on hard floors as necessary to provide care for animals.
- Hours are set according to employees class schedule.
