Posting Number SP004471P Position Title Research Fellow Division / College McClure Center Department McClure Center for Public Policy Research Location Boise Posting Context Statement The McClure Center seeks a research fellow to lead an ambitious natural resources research project.
The research fellow will work with technical experts in universities, governments, businesses, non-profit organizations and more.
The research fellow will conduct and coordinate research efforts; produce high-impact written products by working with experts to distill complex ideas, often under tight deadlines, into succinct and accessible formats;
design online materials; coordinate external review processes; plan dissemination activities; present summaries and engage with constituencies across Idaho.
This is a two-year, professional staff position. Teaching and additional research projects are not part of the role. Position Overview Serves as an independent researcher, or a collaborator on a multi-scholar research initiative.
May have lead responsibility for discrete components of a larger project under the general direction of a senior or principal researcher.
Duties may include :
- Perform complex scientific analyses
- Adjust experimental designs as necessary based on experimental data analysis
- Direct the development of recommendations for project solutions
- Perform peer review of scientific projects, studies or applications and making recommendations
- Prepare peer reviewed publications or presentations
- Resolve complex project specific technical and regulatory issues
- Establish work priorities and performance standards, hiring, training, evaluating staff, assigning and reviewing work
- May be responsible for technical project management to include developing the scope of work, budgeting, scheduling, reporting, implementing field projects and approving scientific documents
- Participate in the development of grant proposals as named project contributor
- Other duties as assigned

Three years of research experience related to the domain of this position
Required Education
Doctoral Degree in natural resources, geography, biological sciences, economics, applied economics, planning, policy or related field;
A Master’s Degree plus an additional two years of research experience (5 years total) may be substituted for a Ph.D.

Requires occasional travel to regional program meetings
Additional Preferred
- Experience working collaboratively with a variety of constituencies, such as businesses, associations, non-profits, governments, communities, researchers and others
- Experience writing for technical and non-technical audience in a variety of modes
- Diplomacy and discretion when engaging with a sets of groups, particularly on sensitive topics (situational savviness)
