Director of Information Technology (On-site)

Full-time 12-month, Exempt Position

POSITION SUMMARY :

The Director of Information Technology directs and manages the IT Department in order to ensure the development and implementation of cost-effective systems and efficient computer operations to meet current and future institutional goals.

The Director reports to the Senior Vice President (SVP) and works with the SVP to provide institution-wide direction in areas of policy, planning, implementation, security and operation for data processing, telecommunications and related functions.

Additionally, the Director is responsible for supporting the institution’s computing and telecommunications equipment and software.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the University’s information systems;
  • Supervises staff of 4-5 FTE employees
  • Performs / supervises all network installations, upgrades, configurations, maintenance and repairs;
  • Performs / supervises all server installations, upgrades, configurations, maintenance and repairs;
  • Completes work orders such as installing equipment, connecting and moving devices or creating components of autonomous networks;
  • installing disk drives; and correcting definitions on data switches, protocol converters, etc.;
  • Maintains and monitors the Wide Area Network (WAN) connection;
  • Develop and monitor departmental budget
  • Using virus protection software, daily backup procedures, and other tools, safeguards the entire LAN system, as well as the University's documents and records;
  • Investigates potential new software applications for the organization.
  • Plans and controls departmental staffing, development, organization, hardware acquisitions, and facilities to ensure that they are consistent with the technology needs of the University;
  • Works with outside vendors and institutions to implement new systems, programs, and procedures that further the University’s goals
  • Initiate and maintain vendor maintenance contracts to minimize organization downtime
  • Responsible for IT policy development for review and approval by Executive Council
  • Focuses on security aspect of software, services and systems. This includes managing and deploying security systems and as a reviewer of security aspects of current and future infrastructure and services.
  • Responsible for participation in annual IT audits and IT security assessment and performing subsequent requirements and remediation
  • Approves and validates hardware / software purchases

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent technical and management experience;
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in related technical fields; higher education experience preferred;
  • Extensive knowledge of large-scale centralized information technology database management;
  • Ability to effectively direct a team to meet institutional goals;
  • Demonstrated project management skills
  • Maintains a high degree of technical competence;
  • Skilled in project planning and execution;
  • Ability to efficiently identify and resolve both system and user-related challenges;
  • Possess proficiency in oral and written communications

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This position requires sitting occasionally for extended periods of time, and repetitive motions for tasks such as operating a computer mouse and keyboard, and hearing and speaking on the telephone.

Position requires ability to crawl under desks / office furniture and access tight spaces. The candidate must be able to lift, pull, bend, grasp, and occasionally lift up to 20 lbs.

Occasional exposure to outside elements may be required.
