The Surgery Scheduler schedules all surgical procedures and assures that all of the appropriate clinical and insurance coding information is collected for the surgery schedule.
Scheduler receives requests to schedule procedures from physician offices and schedules the procedure according to established guidelines.
Scheduler provides accurate information and maintains open communication with hospital departments and physician offices regarding schedule changes.
They also monitor adequacy of inventory for medical operations and create purchase requests as needed.
This position requires periods of extensive sitting and phone work. It also requires other repetitive motions (e.g., bending, stooping, twisting, walking, standing, reaching overhead, pushing or pulling).
Manual dexterity is required, as is the ability to concentrate on detail in the midst of other activity.
Responsibilities
- Schedules surgery procedures using Cerner / Surginet via in person, phone, fax and electronically.
- Gathers and records person demographics and insurance information.
- Answers the phones in a professional and courteous manner.
- Completes daily surgical schedule and distributes as appropriate.
- Assures appropriate coordination with other hospital departments when special surgical needs occur.
- Maintain open communication with other departments when the schedules change to allow them to more effectively manage their time.
- Utilize adequate knowledge of CPT coding.
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information following HIPAA guidelines.
- Sorts and distributes incoming and outgoing mail.
- Orders office supplies.
- Performs chart audits as needed.
- Coordinate TrackCore tissue and Implant management software system with Materials Management.
- All other duties as assigned.
Successful candidate will have :
- Excellent organization skills and be detail oriented.
- Highly skilled in verbal communication, problem solving and prioritization.
Qualifications
Required :
- Requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Basic understanding of medical terminology.
- Excellent phone and customer service.
- Proficient use of computer software, telephone systems and general office equipment.
Preferred :
A minimum of one (1) year scheduling experience.
