Description
Under direct and indirect supervision, the Insurance Coordinator is responsible for the coordination and processing of insurance payments, insurance verifications, all patient billing, coordination of benefits, and ongoing communications with insurance carriers, patients, internal staff, surgeons and other interested parties.
This role will provide information to callers and perform routine clerical and administrative functions such as answering account inquiries, drafting correspondence to patients and insurance providers, responding to explanations of benefits, organizing and maintaining paper and electronic files, and other basic financial support functions.
- Processes all insurance billings for patient services.
- Responsible for insurance verifications and accurate communications to staff and patients regarding insurance coverage.
- Coordinates and processes payments from insurance carriers and troubleshoots any related issues.
- Ensures coordination of benefits are accurate and considered part of the financial planning.
- Serves as a liaison between insurance carriers, staff and patients to resolve any concerns and maintain a positive working relationship.
- Ensures all insurance related duties are completed in a timely and accurate manner to ensure excellent patient relations and financial success for the Practice.
- Achieves revenue goals by effectively managing collections, receivables and insurance billing.
- Assists designated team members with appropriate payment and insurance processes.
- Administers financial agreements with patients in accordance with office policy.
- Other duties and tasks, as assigned periodically.
Requirements
- Always maintain the highest level of confidentiality to HIPAA standards.
- Must be detail oriented in order to prepare and process business and financial correspondence.
- Must be flexible and understand that job duties may change from time to time and that this individual may be asked to assist in other areas of the office.
- Working knowledge of Current Dental Terminology (CDT) codes preferred.
- Experience in a fast-paced environment while providing exceptional customer service.
- Must demonstrate basic math skills and be able to effectively problem solve.
- Knowledge of third-party billing requirements.
- Must be able to work productively and positively within a team environment.
