RESEARCH SCIENTIST / ENGINEER 1 (Project / Temporary)

The Department of Ophthalmology has an outstanding opportunity for a Temporary Research Scientist / Engineer 1. The individual in this position should have a strong background and / or interest in stem cell / iPSC culture, gene editing, and cell biology.

Our research program is directed at generating retinal pigment epithelial cells from human ESCs / iPSCs. These cells not only provide a potential unlimited source for cell replacement therapy for various forms of retinal degeneration, including age-related macular degeneration, but also offer an unprecedented opportunity to clarify the mechanisms of disease.

Job Duties include :

  • Maintaining and differentiating human stem cell colonies and generating / maintaining iPSC colonies.
  • Gene editing in iPSCs
  • Performing molecular biology techniques, cloning, and immunocytochemistry
  • Perform routine analysis of data and assist with trouble shooting and daily quality control of data.
  • Basic laboratory skills, including the ability to keep detailed records of procedures performed.
  • Provide status reports to the Principal Investigator on status of projects.
  • Basic lab maintenance, including ordering and helping with chemical safety paperwork.
  • Very strong organizational abilities and experience in team focused work environment.
  • Attention to procedural detail and meticulous record-keeping is required.
  • Assist in planning and assigning work to Laboratory Helpers and students; assist in training Laboratory Helpers and students on laboratory maintenance and methods.
  • Perform related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences, Neuroscience, or a related field and one year of relevant experience,

Equivalent combination of education / experience.

Desirable Qualifications :

Ability to analyze research data using statistical analysis.

Experience working with tissue culture, especially stem cell or iPSC.
