Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
The Music Director is responsible for all music associated with worship in the parish, coordinates funeral celebrations and weddings and coordinates liturgy for all services and celebrations held in the church including, but not limited to : Sundays, Holy Days, Ordinations, Sacred Concerts, Stations of the Cross, Parish Missions, Confirmation, Prayer Services, Communal Celebrations of Penance, Sacred Triduum, First Communions, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day including any overflow Mass in the Parish Center.
Provides music for weekend liturgies, either directly or by scheduling competent substitutes, and for Major Feast Days, Holy Days of Obligation, and designated school Masses.
- Participates in planning the liturgies and has responsibility for music selection at special celebrations, including weddings and funerals, and at all regular celebrations which includes the 52 Sundays,
- Prepares music for all choirs and coordinates rehearsals for all choir groups including rehearsal with students at St.
Helen Catholic School.
- Recruits, trains and rehearses cantors and musicians for Masses.
- Maintains apparel for choirs.
- Recruits, trains and rehearses Cantors and instrumentalists for appropriate Masses.
- Composes music for instruments as needed.
- Maintains a music library and all other music resources.
- Responsible for the annual budget preparation for all relative areas and monitoring of budget to actual expenses throughout the financial year for the Music Ministry and Consolation Ministry.
- Monitors, controls, and arranges for service of the sound system and all related musical accessories.
- Maintains all Music Department office equipment and all related musical accessories.
- Attend St. Helen staff meetings and all Diocese scheduled meetings, and any continuing education offered by the Diocese.
- Participate as approved by the pastor in outside training seminars or retreats.
- Meets with couples prior to wedding for music selection and consultation, attends rehearsal as available and staffs event appropriately.
Responsible to coordinate with outside musicians, if applicable.
- Coordination with the Church office and funeral home, meeting with family to select Church arrangements, scheduling Church staff and volunteers, briefing participants on the day of funeral.
- Coordinates with the Spanish ministry on weddings, funerals and quinceaneras.
Qualifications :
- Demonstratable experience in a large, multicultural parish setting with multiple choir offerings.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook and Internet.
- Ability to multi-task, work independently and make responsible judgment calls.
- Ability to work effectively with Diocesan employees, departments heads, representatives of other agencies and the general public.
- Excellent written, verbal and public speaking skills.
- Excellent analytical skills and problem-solving capacity.
- Ability to stay focused and organized.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to respect confidentiality and consistently exercise discretion and good business judgment.
- Understands, respects, and represents the teachings and values of the Catholic Church.
