MITRE’s Systems Security Engineering Department is seeking a quality-focused Cybersecurity Engineer with experience executing all phases of the Systems Engineering life cycle including concept, proposal, planning, requirements analysis, implementation, integration, verification, transition, validation, operations, and sustainment to ensure resilient and secure solutions for sponsor needs.
This is an opportunity for a technically sharp self-starter to lead efforts defining, designing, and developing capability to defend critical national assets.

To succeed in this position, you must be a subject matter expert in a broad range of security topics ranging from strategy and planning, governance and management, to protection, detection, mitigation, and cyber and military operations.

Roles and Responsibilities :
- Advise sponsors in developing and acquiring trustworthy secure cyber physical systems
- Develop engineering trade analysis for cost, performance and scalability for systems security capabilities
- Provide technical analysis to program managers for Critical Design Reviews, Program Management Reviews, Independent Technical Review Teams, and engineering document reviews
- Research and develop unique, cutting-edge technical capabilities and processes assessing systems and technologies for resilience and security
- Serve as systems security and cybersecurity subject matter expert (SME) to stakeholders and collaborators
Basic Qualifications :
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Cybersecurity Engineering, Mathematics, Engineering Physics, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or similar field and 8+ years of applicable experience;
or equivalent combination of related education and work experience
- Must have an active Secret clearance for consideration.
- Hands on proficiency using emerging cyber technologies
- Experience with United States Air Force and / or United States Space Force (USSF) mission systems
- Familiarity with defensive cyberspace operations and weapon systems
- Documented success leading capability development and integration efforts
- Have knowledge of security technologies : cryptographic, cross domain, IDS / IPS, network analysis, endpoint protection
- Excellent writing and communications skills
Preferred Qualifications :
- Master’s Degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Cybersecurity Engineering, Mathematics, Engineering Physics, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or similar field
- Eligibility for a Top Secret clearance via a Single Scope Background Investigation
- Familiarity with Department of Defense nuclear enterprise
- Familiarity with military operations
- Familiarity with Agile software development approaches and DevSecOps environments
