Summary of Function :
Faculty members are involved in continuous assessment and engaged in expanding teaching methodologies and delivery systems to improve student academic success and retention.
Full-time faculty will follow an 80-5-15 model, where they actively participate in departmental / divisional meetings and activities, in student recruitment / retention / advisement activities, in community / partner relationships, and in activities that promote and support the district-wide academic goals of the local populations and the College.
Faculty may be asked to teach on various campuses, via online / hybrid courses, as directed by the needs of the community for a given semester;
course scheduling may include daytime, evenings, and / or weekends.
Typical Duties :
- Teaching Responsibility :
- Teach 15 equated load hours / semester (to include material and preparation time); develop and grade exams and instruments to evaluate student learning and progress;
submit student grades / progress as required by the programs / policies of the College.
- Maintain a minimum of 5 office hours / week / semester load and engage indirect interaction with students in a formal learning environment for a 15-equated load hour schedule.
- Remain current in the discipline, updating course content when appropriate. Maintain standard syllabus / outline for each course in accordance with program / pro endures.
Update course syllabus / outline annually.
- Work with colleagues to develop and implement processes and tools for the assessment of teaching and student learning outcomes that incorporate appropriate methodologies and technology.
- In collaboration with colleagues, develop a system for evaluation of teaching and learning including course competency expectations and student outcome measures.
- Incorporate results of assessments to modify instruction and materials in general education.
- College Responsibility :
- Collaborate with colleagues to identify student learning outcomes; develop assessment processes and tools; incorporate results to enhance / modify instruction and material, degree program, course cluster, and / or certificate program as appropriate.
- Actively participate in student recruitment, retention, and advisement activities and programs.
- Participate in institutional functions such as, but not limited to, college committees, task forces, club sponsorships, facilitation of advisory committees, student / faculty recruitment, and mentoring of new and associate faculty as directed by Executive Director & Dean of CTE Programs or Director of Agriculture Programs.
- Maintain 10 positive interaction hours / week. Attend graduation ceremonies.
- Working with colleagues, serving as a resource for faculty members.
- Community Responsibility :
- Participate in professional developmental activities outside the College, such as but not limited to, community events, boards, clubs, and conferences.
Coordinate such participation with colleagues and supervisors as appropriate.
- Serve on local and state advisory committees as directed by the Executive Director & Dean of CTE Programs or Director of Agriculture Programs.
- Additional Responsibility :
- Participate in adjunct faculty recruitment.
- Serve as a resource for adjunct faculty.
- Budget for equipment, materials, and supplies to support courses of primary responsibility.
- Work with regional Agriculture employers to help develop and support intern, research, and work experiences for students at all levels.
- Work with Departmental Faculty to develop and implement Open Educational Resources (OER) content.
- Support and participate in strategic initiatives and perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications :
- Master’s degree in Agriculture with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in a plant science field, AND experience in teaching freshman and sophomore (or 100 and 200) level major and general education laboratory / science courses
- Master’s degree in Agriculture, Agriculture Education, or related field (including Biology, Environmental Science) with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in a plant science field

Position Type & Work Schedule :
- Full-time, 9-month position
- 33 hours per week
- Monday-Thursday
- Work flexible schedule to meet the program, department, and / or institutional needs, which may include Fridays, nights, and / or weekends
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
- Knowledge of and ability to follow college policies and procedures
- In-depth knowledge of the academic discipline being taught
- Knowledge and understanding of effective teaching methods and learning theories
- Knowledge of curriculum design and assessment practices
- Knowledge of and ability to effectively utilize instructional technologies and learning platforms including learning management system
- Skill in current technologies and word processing, database, presentation, and spreadsheet software, specifically Microsoft Office applications, Windows
- Skill in creating and grading assessments that accurately measure student learning
- Strong organizational skills to manage course materials, records, and administrative tasks
- Ability to utilize appropriate instructional strategies and educational technology for various modalities
- Ability to complete all departmental and / or institutional mandatory training or development
- Ability to promote and support the 2+2 partnerships with Arizona universities
- Ability to communicate timely and effectively with students, colleagues, administrators, and the general public
- Ability to provide instruction for all levels of learners including foundation or introductory courses
- Ability to plan and deliver engaging and effective instruction
- Ability to build positive relationships with students and colleagues
- Ability to adapt teaching methods to meet diverse student needs
- Ability to address and resolve issues related to teaching and student learning
- Ability to efficiently manage time to balance teaching, preparation, and administrative duties

- Ability to participate in or conduct, when designated, successful industry advisory meetings and other program-related meetings

Work Environment :
- Inside office environment with normal noise and lighting levels
- Work is performed in an open office environment with staff contact and interruptions
- Working environment may include various locations across the service district, indoor and / or outdoor locations as needed to support program, department or institutional needs

Physical Demands :
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
