Job Title : Anatomic Pathology (AP) Clinical Operations Director

Job Summary :

The AP Clinical Operations Director provides leadership and management of Department of Pathology laboratory operations working collaboratively and creatively with professional, laboratory and administrative leadership to address complex technical, facility, and human resources related issues, as well as overseeing process improvement, and the integration of services within the Anatomic Pathology Laboratories and other hospital departments.

This includes the development of workflows, policies and procedures, and deployment of information technology, and cross entity coordination for entity-wide solutions.

The Clinical Operations Director provides leadership to, and oversight of, operations to ensure quality and timely pre-intra and post-analytical processes and procedures, working with Surgical Pathology managers, supervisors, and medical directors to oversee the operations of the different laboratories to guarantee that specimen handling, slide preparation, pathology report.

Key Responsibilities :

Operations (25%)

  • Plan, coordinate, and administer the activities of the gross laboratory, histology laboratory, cytopathology laboratory, and morgue
  • Serve as key interface between the anatomic pathology laboratories, other departmental laboratories / divisions, and UC Health services, clinics, and operating rooms
  • Meet with and prepare reports for the laboratory medical director and other departmental leaders, such as workload statistics, errors / deviations, and quality metrics
  • Supervision over laboratory supervisors, Histology, Cytology and support staff; and collaboration with pathology assistant
  • Plan, supervise, and assign work to staff, evaluate performance, and conduct training
  • Provide oversight of equipment and facilities in the anatomic laboratories and associated clinical spaces

Planning (25%)

  • Implement department strategic goals approved by Department Chair, Vice Chair of Anatomic Pathology, and Administration
  • Engage with department leaders and faculty to effect short term and long-term goals and strategic visions
  • Monitor quality assurance metrics and develop quality improvement programs

Financial Management (25%)

  • Perform cost studies as needed for contracts, negotiations, and compliance
  • Develop, implement, and monitor flow of funds for anatomic pathology laboratories, for review by Administrator, Clinical Leaders, and Chair

Policy Coordination (25%)

  • Ensure laboratory and provider compliance with regulatory and licensing agencies
  • Execute policy review, development, implementation, and auditing to ensure regulatory compliance and quality assurance, including compliance with CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program and proficiency testing assays

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO.

Qualifications :

Minimum Qualifications :

  • A bachelor's degree in biological science, nutrition, nursing, health, human services, psychology, counseling, social work, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of clinical laboratory experience
  • A minimum of three (3) years of supervisory / managerial experience

A combination of education and related technical / paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.

Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

The position requires extensive, diverse and progressively responsible experience, including direct responsibility for high volume clinical laboratory operations.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • MBA / MPA
  • Ten (10) years' of experience working in a high volume, hospital based clinical lab.
  • HT or HTL certification, or certification as Pathologist Assistant, strongly preferred
  • Immunohistochemistry Certification (QIHC, ASCP)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
  • Outstanding customer service skills with a professional demeanor.
  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion.
  • Self-starter that demonstrates the ability to work individually with minimal supervision as well as part of a team of technologists, show proficiency at solving complex problems, and exhibit excellent computer skills (all Microsoft products and preferably QuickBooks).
  • Ability to interpret complex rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of functional (equipment, programs, systems, functional capabilities) and administrative aspects of an anatomic pathology laboratory.

Anticipated Pay Range :

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as $91,144-$115,935

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
