Desktop Support Technician
Position Summary
The Libraries Systems and Development group is a small, dedicated team a passion for excellence and service to the MSU Libraries.
Reporting to the Systems team manager, the primary focus of this position includes :
- Operating system and hardware setup and support for desktops and laptops running Windows and Mac OS
- IT support for printers, scanners, tablets, AV equipment, and other devices
- IT support of various software and web applications
- Managing and tracking department software licenses
- Performing basic updates, file permission setting changes, and Active Directory group maintenance
- Performing Ethernet and WiFi network troubleshooting and managing network settings on various devices
- Training and documentation for library employees on various software and hardware

Minimum Requirements
- Knowledge normally acquired in the first two or three years of college, technical, vocational or business school such as an Associate’s Degree;
- one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in an information technology area related to the duties to be performed OR a Bachelor’s Degree ;
- up to six months of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in an information technology area related to the duties to be performed;
or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
Desired Qualifications
- Willingness to continually advance technical skills through self-study
- Excellent verbal and written Communication skills
- Ability to take ownership of a project and see it through to completion
- Familiar with Macintosh operating systems.
- Familiar with basic Windows Server and Active Directory administration.
- Familiar with PC and Macintosh hardware and the ability to perform maintenance and service on equipment.
- Competent in supporting scanners, printers, and copiers.
- Familiar with supporting products such as Outlook, Office 365, Adobe Creative Cloud, and Zoom.
