Job Posting : Group Fitness Trainer
Location : Westminster-Canterbury on Chesapeake Bay
Schedule : Part-Time Minus (less than 20 hours per pay cycle)

WHAT YOU WILL DO :
As our Group Fitness Trainer, you will play a pivotal role in enhancing the lives of our residents through innovative and engaging fitness programs.
You will teach and coordinate both land and water-based exercise classes, tailored to meet the diverse needs of our community members.
Your responsibilities will include :
- Leading land and aquatic-based exercise programs, making necessary modifications to ensure inclusivity.
- Preparing classes that address the unique fitness needs of our residents and, where possible, our staff members.
- Assessing fitness levels and providing personalized guidance through various testing procedures.
- Ensuring a safe and welcoming environment in our pool and fitness areas, maintaining equipment in line with Health Department standards.
- Tracking and reporting resident participation, promoting engagement and attendance in our programs.
- Assisting with health education classes and workshops, leveraging both internal and external resources.
- Reporting resident health concerns to appropriate staff for timely intervention.
- Training new Fitness Center participants and maintaining resident participation files.
- Collaborating with our Therapy Department to support residents transitioning from rehabilitative services.
- Guiding volunteers in the pool and fitness areas, and training class leaders to ensure continuity in the absence of staff.
- Assisting with special events and working with various departments to ensure seamless community-wide coordination.
- Serving on interdepartmental teams to champion the wellness philosophy throughout our community.
- Demonstrating and supporting the Mission and Values of Westminster-Canterbury on Chesapeake Bay.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL :
- A degree in Exercise Science / Physiology, Sports Medicine, Therapeutic Recreation, Athletic Training, or a related field, or 5+ years of experience in this field.
- Current certification in CPR, with the ability to perform lifesaving techniques and initiate emergency responses.
- A deep understanding and appreciation of the geriatric population, including knowledge of their physical capabilities.
- Experience teaching a variety of water-based and land-based fitness classes.
- Instructor training certification and / or personal trainer certification from ACSM, NASM, NSCA, ACE, or another recognized organization.
- Proficiency in the use of fitness equipment.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to foster positive relationships with residents and staff.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :
- Ability to actively participate and lead a minimum of three classes daily.
- Tolerance for the warm temperatures in the pool area and the ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
- Capability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
