NURSING SUMMARY / PURPOSE OF POSITION
The Aultman Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional nurse that provides direct, primary nursing care to patients / residents.
The RN delegates and coordinates patient care, based upon a documented assessment of the patient's / resident's needs. The RN supervises the care provided by individuals such as licensed practical nurses, patient care technicians / state tested nursing assistants / nurse aides, medical assistants, and etc., if applicable.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred.
- Current, active licensure as a Registered Nurse through the Ohio Board of Nursing.
- Maintain current, active BLS certification through the American Heart Association.
- Certification preferred for RNs meeting applicable certification eligibility requirements.
- Membership in professional nursing organization preferred.

- RN applies the nursing process of assessment, planning interventions, accurately implements and / or delegates patient care, evaluates that care, and accurately communicates patient information in a timely manner.

WORKING CONDITIONS :
- Meal and break times are coordinated with other staff members to maintain adequate coverage.
- Shifts are scheduled or changed due to the staffing needs of the unit / department based upon volume and acuity.
- Work weekends and holidays as assigned or as applicable based on department needs.
- Cross training depending upon department needs.

DEPARTMENT SUMMARY :
Radiation Oncology provides care to adult patients diagnosed with cancer and other diagnosis that may require treatment with radiation therapy.
Services include but are not limited to : consultations with a radiation oncologist, education on processes and side effects of treatment, treatment planning for external beam and brachytherapy radiation treatment, the delivery of prescribed treatments, side effect management, and follow up / survivorship after treatment completion.

Qualifications
- 1 year oncology nursing experience preferred but not required
- OCN certification encouraged but not required
- If not certified must obtain 12 CE oncology specific education each calendar year
Responsibilities & Expectations
- Establishes a trusting relationship with the patient and their caregivers
- Provides nursing care to the radiation therapy patient in accordance with the Oncology Nursing Society standards of Radiation Oncology Nursing Practice.
- Provides care coordination between the care team and facilitates timely referrals and interventions
- Provides education for the patient and family on all aspects of care and treatment and distributes written teaching tools that are culturally competent
- Keeps accurate and timely records in patient medical record
- Demonstrates lifelong learning through a knowledge and understanding of best practice and evidence-based guidelines for cancer treatment
- Participates in psychosocial distress screening and provides interventions and follow up as required
- Creates and fosters a work environment that is consistent with the Mission, Vision and Values of the Aultman Health Foundation
- Supports strategic organizational goals
- Abides by the Aultman Code of Conduct at all times
- Other responsibilities as assigned by the Radiation Oncology Director

- Work eight- nine hours a day. Hours are flexible based on patient schedule.
