POSITION SUMMARY :
Primary responsibility is to provide academic support to student-athletes at Joliet Junior College to support their retention, persistence and degree completion or transfer.
This includes monitoring eligibility, class attendance, academic progress and transfer, and promoting a positive student-athlete experience.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Assist students, parents and coaches with the enrollment process. Advise on athletic eligibility requirements and refer as necessary to the Financial Aid and other student development and academic offices.
2. Provide support and assistance to the Athletic Operations and Building Operations staff.
3. Meet with and communicate to student-athletes throughout the semester on an appointment and walk-in basis to provide assistance with questions impacting athletic eligibility and academic progress and success.
4. Work with at-risk students to develop plans for academic success and goal attainment. Monitor and follow up on student progress including attendance patterns, standards of academic progress, GPA, number of credit hours, academic program completion / graduation, transfer and athletic eligibility.
5. Gather and share outcome data (such as GPAs, course completion and retention rates, graduation and transfer data) with Director of Athletics, VP of Student Development, individual sport coaches and others upon request.
6. Act as a liaison between students and faculty as needed. Hold information sessions for coaches and athletes regarding academic policies and procedures as well as other pertinent issues (study skills, time management, etc).
7. Maintain student records by using the college student administration system and assist in the tracking of student-athlete facility usage.
8. Work with the Student Advising Center, University Partnerships and Transfer Information as well as faculty advisors to support the transfer process and to assure accurate understanding and communication of requirements for transfer institutions.
9. Work with athletics, faculty and student development staff to recognize and support the accomplishments (both athletic and academic) of student athletes, and support department and building wide initiatives and communications.
10. Perform related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
2. Valid Driver's License.
3. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other members of the college and community, displaying cultural competence as well as emotional intelligence.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. Computer experience and technology skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office. Familiarity with Datatel Colleague system.
2. Strong verbal and written communication skills, and ability and willingness to work cooperatively with a diverse population.
3. Experience in advising, teaching, or tutoring traditional age students in a higher education setting; some direct experience with student-athletes.
4. English, Spanish and / or other languages verbal and written communication proficiency.
5. Demonstrated multicultural competence.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

3. Ability to travel in state and nationally.
4. The employee is often required to stand, walk, run, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch.
Vision requirements include close vision and ability to adjust focus.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Duties are performed indoors and outdoors daily, as weather conditions permit, in the athletics environment. Noise level can be moderate to loud.
