We are looking for an Industrial Automation Engineer to work within our technical team to bring a transformative laser technology to a critical strategic market.

To meet this challenge, Coherent has assembled a cross-functional team charged with bringing together some of our most advanced laser technology with software technology to enable hands-off operation, and integration into larger tools that are themselves highly automated.

A successful candidate will be our local expert of instrumentation and automation principles and practices. We are looking for an engineer who is comfortable integrating LabView based control at the instrumentation level while also embracing technologies such as Service Oriented Architectures (SOA) and OPC-UA and C# for larger systems.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Define and implement architectures and interfaces between system elements using supportable, standard methods . service oriented architectures
  • Develop LabView controls for advanced optical subsystems incorporating motion control, optics, detectors etc.
  • Collaborate with technical and non-technical staff to capture and review requirements, perform design reviews, present development status at gate reviews.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and other stakeholders to capture software testing and validation approaches, including both new feature testing as well as regression and release testing.

Support efforts to document our software related deliverables.

Support researching and demonstration of new technologies and tools.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Industrial Automation, Physics, or related fields
  • Experience with source code control tools such as GIT or SVN
  • 5 years of experience with LabVIEW & NI data acquisition hardware
  • Familiarity and experience with laboratory test instrumentation such as oscilloscopes, cameras, sensors, function generators etc.
  • Track-record of effective problem-solving

Desired Qualifications

  • LabView Certification (Developer or Architect)
  • 5+ years of experience in software development using .NET / C# or C / C++.
  • 5+ years of experience in Industrial Automation
  • 5+ years of experience in Service Oriented Architectures, particularly OPC-UA
  • Experience with Python or similar high-level programming language.
