Location :
This position is hybrid with onsite required days on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and may be assigned to any Consumers Energy Service Center located throughout Michigan’s lower peninsula.
The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate (relocation package is available for those that qualify).
We are looking for : Senior Meteorologist
The Senior Meteorologist will develop and maintain forecasts, reports, plans, and communications using applicable modeling and weather management tools as necessary.
This role will perform assignments using specialized background and resources to interpret information and data to then apply it to various needs across the business.
This role will recommend operational actions necessary to assist the implementation of restoration plans and other business needs.
The position will be required to have a storm role which may require an on-call rotation. Support may be needed Nights, Weekends and Holidays.
The knowledge and skills involved with this position include but are not limited to :
- In-depth knowledge of meteorological data systems, meteorological data, methodologies, forecast models and techniques as well as meteorology biases and inherent forecast difficulties
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written to large audiences. Ability to clearly convey messages for understanding
- Advanced understanding of Machine learning and AI models used in data analysis
- Moderate knowledge of computer programming and database management
- Use of lean problem solving techniques (CE Way)
- Intermediate experience in PowerBI, Power Apps and Microsoft based programs
- Understanding of electric distribution systems

Bachelor’s Degree in Atmospheric Science or Meteorology with a minimum of four (4) years’ of applicable experience OR Associate degree in Atmospheric Science or Meteorology with a minimum of eight (8) years’ of applicable experience OR High School Diploma with a minimum of twelve (12) years’ of applicable experience
In this role, you will be responsible for :
- Analyze and predict weather patterns for daily operational updates
- Performs advanced analytics on data sets to draw operational conclusions
- Recommend actions necessary to assist the implementation of emergency restoration plans and advises on Company strategy.
Provide medium and long term forecasts informing company roadmaps and strategy
Archives, maintains, trends, and forecasts daily meteorological and electric distribution system information for influence on Company customers in and around the service territory.
Establish and create procedures and processes that improve the predictability of weather impacts on the distribution system and improve planning criteria for response to weather events
- Maintain and negotiate appropriate contracts for meteorological services
- Perform / create assignments, models, studies, services, and meteorological assessments using knowledge from various technical areas in support of management internal and external customers and corporate priorities
- Prepares various management level reports, legal summaries, customer and schedule analyses
- Serves on industry forums / workgroups to advance new technologies and understand on weather climate impacts on the utility
- Stays current in the areas of meteorology, computer applications and applied meteorology practices
- Continually monitor and communicate weather patterns and restoration risk to internal stakeholders
- Work with Distribution Standards on best practices for system standard upgrades to prepare for end of life’ climate conditions of the assets
- Ability to be available and perform job duties during restoration events impacting the Company's service territory; this will include holidays, weekends, and after normal working hours
- Other duties as assigned or may be necessary
