Street Maintenance Worker I Salary : $3,441 - $4,182 / monthly

Street Maintenance Worker II Salary : $3,997 - $4,858 / monthly

The department is looking to fill the Street Maintenance Worker II position at this time and all other successful candidates will be placed onto an eligibility list.

Education and Experience

Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade.

  • Street Maintenance Worker I : One year of experience in experience in public works construction or maintenance work.
  • Street Maintenance Worker II : Three (3) years of increasingly responsible skilled experience in public works related construction work, or two (2) years of experience equivalent to a Street Maintenance Worker I at the City of Corona.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Possession of a valid Class "C" California Driver's License, to be maintained throughout employment.
  • Depending on area of assignment, possession of, or successful acquisition within 12 months of employment, a valid Class "A" or Class "B" California Driver's License, to be maintained throughout employment.

Skills and Abilities

Breaks and removes pavement; digs, shovels, hauls, and loads soils, sand, gravel, cement, asphalt mixes, and other materials;

cleans up work sites upon completion of job.

  • Sweeps and shovels debris and litter, carries cans and heavy objects, and loads trucks; assists in emptying loads at dump sites.
  • Drives vehicles to work sites and sets up and removes barricades to protect crews from street traffic; directs traffic in roadways to protect crews.
  • Operates air compressor and pneumatic air tools, including tampers, jackhammers, breaking guns, and concrete saws; uses hand tools, including shovels, picks, brooms, wheelbarrows, rakes and rollers, and a variety of small hand tools for a variety of trades;

maintains tools and equipment in proper working order.

  • Performs rough carpentry and pipefitting.
  • Lays and rakes, rolls, and irons hot asphalt and oil spray.
  • Builds and removes forms; mixes, sets, trowels, and finishes concrete, cement, and masonry.
  • Performs storm drain maintenance; removes and replaces drains; cleans and removes debris from drains.
  • Operates various types and sizes of trucks and motorized equipment, such as dump trucks, vactor trucks, tractors, skip loaders, backhoes, box pavers, rollers, compactors, and forklifts;

inspects vehicles and reports maintenance as required.

  • Measures and lays out center lines, crosswalks, and other line markings.
  • Removes and installs street lighting poles and fixtures, as assigned; maintains, repairs, and makes alterations to buildings, facilities, and equipment;

removes and / or paints over graffiti on private and public property; fabricates, assembles, and installs traffic signs, as assigned.

Serves on the City's on call standby program; responds to a variety of emergencies including water main breaks, customer re-connections, water service leaks, hit hydrants, sewer spills, and water loss complaints, as well as a variety of parks, streets, traffic collisions, and other public works calls.

The position is a full-time benefited position with a 4 / 10 work week, every Friday off, 6am - 5pm, unless emergency occurs.

THE ORGANIZATION

The City of Corona is a General Law city operating under a Council-Manager form of government. Policy making and legislative authority is vested in the City Council, consisting of a Mayor and four Council Members.

Members of the City Council are elected by District to a four-year term. The Mayor is selected by the Council and serves as the presiding officer for one year.

The City is organized into the following departments / organizational units : Community Services, City Manager's Office, Economic Development, Finance, Fire, Human Resources, Information Technology, Legal and Risk Management, Police, Planning & Development, Public Works and Utilities.

Oversight of these departments is divided between the City Manager and two Assistant City Managers.

The City's total operating budget for Fiscal Year 2024 is $ 369.9 million with a General Fund operating budget of $ 194.5 million.
