Location : Nikolai Project, Alaska

Reporting To : Vice President Exploration and / or Chief Geoscientist

Purpose

The Environmental and Permitting Manager is responsible for all aspects of local, state and federal permitting and compliance for mineral exploration projects.

The primary objective of the position is the successful advancement of the Nikolai project and will involve working closely with project staff, state / federal regulators and 3rd party consultants to ensure the timely application, receipt and compliance with all necessary project permits as well as coordination of baseline environmental studies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage land-use and environmental permitting processes
  • Research and understand current local, state and federal laws and regulations
  • Prepare, submit and manage permit applications
  • Prepare RFPs and obtain proposals for environmental surveys
  • Review and analyze technical and cost proposals
  • Coordinate and manage environmental surveys including baseline water quality, wetland delineation, archaeological / cultural surveys, endangered species surveys, and other baseline environmental studies
  • Manage 3 rd party consultant(s) providing technical support and review deliverables
  • Coordinate with project technical staff to ensure scope of work and deliverables of 3 rd party consultant(s) adequately address project needs and requirements
  • Serve as an internal trusted advisor to company management and project team
  • Track and schedule permit tasks, and provide regular updates to management and project team
  • Conduct site environmental review to inform project planning and identify issues early in development lifecycle
  • Develop and support project planning initiatives
  • Assist with preparation of overall project budgets
  • Other responsibilities as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.

Supervision / Influence

Work closely with project staff and office administrative staff to meet project goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelors or Masters of Science in Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field
  • Professional experience working in mining / mineral exploration sector
  • Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office software

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Geographical Experience. Professional experience gained in Alaska
  • Alaska Regulatory Experience. Experience working with Alaska regulators (ADEC, ADNR, etc)
  • Registration / Licensure. Professional registration and / or licensure is desirable

Working Conditions and Physical Work Demands

  • Comfortable with working in rugged terrain
  • Remote locations often in exploration camp style work environment
  • Extended periods away from home base
