Education and Prevention Specialist

Oregon Health & Science University
Portland, OR, US
Full-time

Overview

Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) seeks a dedicated Prevention and Education Specialist to join the Office of Civil Rights Investigations and Compliance (OCIC).

Under the supervision of the Director of the Prevention and Education Program this role fosters a supportive and inclusive environment by providing preventative, responsive educational opportunities and resources to OHSU students, residents, staff, and faculty.

The ideal candidate possesses strong mediation and conflict resolution skills, is adept at intervention strategies, and has an experiential background in formal and informal resolution procedures related to civil rights concerns and sexual violence response.

The Prevention and Education Specialist works collaboratively with OCIC leadership, including the Prevention and Education Program Director, the Director of OCIC, the ADA Coordinator, and the Director of the Confidential Advocacy Program for Employees (CAP-E).

As part of the resolution process, the Specialist may be asked to ensure compliance with any findings or recommendations that result from an OCIC investigation, a review by the ADA Coordinator, or a request from the CAP-E Director.

For example, as part of the resolution between parties for a case that was investigated by an Equal Employment Officer, the OCIC Director may require the involved parties to complete a dispute resolution within a restorative justice framework.

Another example may be that the ADA Coordinator assigns coaching for a department to increase their skills after several reports about lack of knowledge with how to work with individuals with a specific disability.

The CAP-E might see an emerging trend related to an experience of a particular protected class on campus and may ask the Specialist to create passive programming to inform the OHSU community of expectations and information related to OHSU expectations about an inclusive and respectful environment.

Overall, the Specialist, in coordination with the Director of the Prevention and Education Program, engages in interventions on behalf of OCIC investigations processes, ADA compliance initiatives, skill-building for OHSU Members, and responds to requests from departments or individuals seeking to improve their knowledge base.
