Role Description

Position Objective :

As an integral member of the Executive Leadership Team, you will have the unique opportunity to lead and shape the Medical and Scientific Affairs function for the North American Region.

Your expertise and leadership will be critical in developing strategy, policies, programs, that will ultimately enable health care professionals to improve patient outcomes and help LEO realize its vision of becoming a global leader in medical dermatology.

With key working relationships across the full enterprise in North America, you will have direct responsibility for Medical Affairs / Medical Information, a team of Medical Science Liaisons, and oversee Pharmacovigilance for both the US and Canada.

This role will also be a vital link to global R&D functions, providing timely and insightful feedback into clinical development programs, life cycle management and business development evaluations.

In addition to oversight responsibilities, this executive will have key working relationships in the U.S. with Portfolio Business Units, and globally, in Copenhagen, with Medical Affairs, Regulatory, Quality and Pharmacovigilance.

Role and Responsibilities :

  • You have the power to build, manage, and develop a team of highly competent and engaged managers in the areas of Medical and Scientific Affairs, Medical Information and Pharmacovigilance.
  • You will become a member of the North American Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and will be an active contributor to the development and execution of enterprise strategy, progressive HR policies, and the day to day operations of the business.
  • You will work in close collaboration with global R&D on the evolving medical affairs strategy, data generation, clinical development, life cycle management and the evaluation of BD opportunities.

While this function reports into the EVP for North America, it’s vitally important to ensure global alignment, and a strong partnership with global R&D management.

You will develop and execute the U.S. Medical and Scientific Affairs strategy and execution, policies, programs and SOPs;

oversee Investigator Sponsored Trial (IST) programs.

  • You will establish positive professional relationships and interact with members of the medical community, including key opinion leaders (KOLs) and subject matter experts in medical dermatology.
  • You will develop, manage, and oversee the budget for all departments within the Medical and Scientific Affairs function.
  • You will work closely with the commercial functions to ensure an appropriate level of support for field-based activities.
  • You will take responsibility for participation in the legal, regulatory and medical review of promotional materials and for Company-led medical information and publication support.

You embrace a compliance and business ethics mindset working with a high level of risk intelligence.

  • You will represent LEO Pharma at meetings with various government agencies, as well as at professional conferences and Company meetings.
  • You will facilitate and / or deliver scientific / medical information and clinical / research findings through approved symposia and lectures.
  • You will be expected to travel both domestically and internationally to various meetings, conferences, and congresses.
  • You will complete all company-based and job-related training as assigned by LEO Pharma within the required timeline.

Job Requirements :

  • Requires a minimum of 10+ years' pharmaceutical industry experience, which shall include prior experience managing a Medical Affairs or equivalent group in the U.S.
  • BA / BS as well as an M.D.
  • Clinical research experience in dermatology is strongly preferred.
  • Understanding of the U.S. market, FDA regulations and stakeholders influencing decisions.
  • Proven track record of success.
  • Solid leadership skills, including experience building, developing, motivating and leading a high-performing team.
  • Existing relationships with KOLs and investigators in the field of dermatology is strongly preferred; ability to cultivate and develop relationships with such individuals is required.
  • Strong project management skills; solid planning and organizational skills.
  • Ability to understand and effectively communicate scientific, medical and commercial components of marketed products.
  • Drive for results; Customer Focus, Decision Quality, Functional Technical Skills.
  • Exceptional communication skills (verbal, written and platform).
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate cross-functionally and with global colleagues.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% domestically and internationally.
