Job Summary
Vancouver Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services is currently seeking seasonal workers for the positions of Special Events Staff and Park Attendant.
These openings will include part-time day, evening, and weekend hours. The person in this position will perform a variety of duties in facilities services and event support for city sponsored, partnered, and permitted events programmed in parks throughout the City.
Hours vary from 10-40 hours a week (maximum 1040 total hours in a rolling 12 month period), with days and weekend work required; schedules vary weekly.
Job Details
Essential Functions :
- Provide a high level of customer service at all times; project and maintain a positive image on behalf of the City of Vancouver with all those contacted in the course of work.
- Understand and implement City of Vancouver Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Department operating principles, policies, and procedures.
- Provide information and assistance to users of facilities; ensure users are aware of all rules and regulations (i.e. turn on electricity and lights, turn off glockenspiel, unlock stage, and answer any questions the coordinator would have).
- Set up, tear down and organization of event equipment
- Coordinate a variety of duties to ensure the maintenance, neatness, cleanliness, and safety of facilities and adjacent grounds.
- Inspect buildings, facilities, and equipment before and after the event; report damage and needed repairs including graffiti and vandalism.
- Provide minor first aid as necessary; fill out accident reports.
- Perform other duties as required through assigned program.
Park Attendant / Events Assistant $15.74 - $17.37
Positions may include Events Assistant and / or Park Attendant Assistant.
Park Attendant / Events Leader (additional duties) $16.95-$22.24
- Positions may include Events Lead and / or Parking Attendant Lead
- Responsible for leading the day of operation and schedule of the event and managing the equipment and supplies.
- Lead Event / Park Attendant Assistant staff on-site at the event / park.
- Ensure the event is in compliance with all items outlined in signed letter of agreement / event permit contract.
- Ensure the safety of individuals and security of facilities; evaluate and take appropriate action to correct unusual situations including fights, thefts, lost children, overcrowded situations, and behavior problems.
Qualifications
- Current CPR / First Aid card required within 30 days of employment.
- Experience in event logistics, recreation programs, camps, fitness, working with the public.
- Previous work or volunteer experience or training in assigned program
- Able to maintain a calm and professional demeanor at all times, including emergencies.
- Able and willing to report all accidents and safety health hazards according to City guidelines
- Maintain a professional appearance, adhere to dress code and provide excellent customer
- service.
- Additional training / certification as required by department or position.
- Successful completion of a background check.
- Successfully pass employment references.
