Project Overview :
The Walsh-VINCI Transit Community Partners (WVTCP) Joint Venture consisting of VINCI Construction Grands Projets and Walsh Construction has been selected to construct the $2.
9BN Design Build Red Line Extension (RLE) project - the largest civil construction contract ever awarded by the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA).
The RLE Mainline Design-Build (MDB) Project will extend the CTA's Red Line by 5.6 miles, extending from the existing terminal at 95th / Dan Ryan south to 130th Street and Doty Avenue.
We are seeking an Environmental Manager to manage the Environmental approach of the Project.
Responsibilities :
Environmental Strategy : Develop and implement environmental strategies, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with federal, provincial, and municipal regulations.
Implement and promote in the Project the Corporate Environmental policy
- Environmental Impact Assessment : Conduct comprehensive environmental impact assessments to identify potential risks and develop mitigation measures for construction activities.
- Regulatory Compliance : Ensure strict adherence to environmental regulations, permits, and standards throughout all project phases, including monitoring air quality, water quality, and noise levels.
- Stakeholder Engagement : Collaborate with regulatory agencies, environmental consultants, community groups, and stakeholders to address environmental concerns and maintain transparent communication.
- Environmental Training : Provide training and guidance to project teams, contractors, and subcontractors on environmental best practices, regulations, and protocols.
- Waste Management : Develop and oversee waste management plans, including recycling programs and hazardous waste disposal, to minimize environmental impact.
- Environmental Monitoring and reporting : Implement environmental monitoring programs to track environmental performance indicators and ensure continuous improvement.
Ensure all key indicator tracking and follow up for the Project and for the Corporate Environmental department.
- Emergency Response : Develop and implement emergency response plans for environmental incidents, such as spills or leaks, ensuring prompt and effective mitigation measures.
- Sustainability Initiatives : Lead sustainability initiatives within the project, focusing on energy efficiency, green procurement, biodiversity conservation, and carbon footprint reduction.
- Communication : Promote and spread through Communication team, environmental initiatives, goals and achievement.
Qualifications : Required
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
- American Certified Environmental Professional or equivalent certification.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in environmental management.
- In-depth knowledge of federal, provincial, and municipal environmental regulations, permits, and standards.
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders, whole Project team and Environmental team.
- Proven track record of developing and implementing environmental management systems and compliance strategies.
- Experience in conducting environmental impact assessments and risk assessments.
- Familiarity with environmental monitoring equipment, software, and data analysis tools.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience working on Joint Venture (JV) construction projects required
- Fluent in English with professional proficiency.
- Able to work day and nigh shifts.
- Valid Driver's License.
Preferred
- Master's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience in large-scale construction projects or infrastructure development.
Work Environment :
- Involves a dynamic and challenging work environment.
- Includes tasks such as maintaining and repairing heavy machinery, ensuring equipment operates efficiently, and adhering to safety protocols in construction sites.
- Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety glasses, and reflective vests when on-site.
Physical Demands :
- Must be able to lift 50lbs.
- Walking long distances within the site to inspect various aspects of the project.
- Significant amount of walking and standing while inspecting equipment and coordinating activities on-site.
- Occasional climbing on and off equipment and bending to inspect.
