POSITION OVERVIEW : SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory seeks a Cryogenic Operations Group Leader to lead the operation of the SLAC Cryogenic Plant (2.

0 K helium refrigeration system) that supports SLAC’s LCLS-II superconducting linear accelerator. The successful candidate will join an integrated team of engineers, technicians, and operators dedicated to the safe and reliable operation of LCLS superconducting accelerator’s cryogenic system.

The Operations Group Leader will be responsible for the continuing (24 hours by 7 days) operation of the Cryoplant. This position reports to the Accelerator Directorate’s Cryogenics Division Director.

The successful candidate will provide leadership and management for a staff of about 7 comprised of represented employees.

Given the nature of this position, SLAC will require onsite work.Your specific responsibilities include : Lead the Operation Group in charge of the LCLS-II Cryoplant 24 / 7 Operations.

Provide end-to-end supervision, direction, and control of cryoplant operations to ensure 24 / 7 availability of cryogenic support to the LCLS-II superconducting accelerator system.

Define the long-and short-term goals for the group based on the directorate’s business plan. Contribute to the development of the division’s strategic plan.

Plan, develop, and establish group policies, practices, and personnel related to all the activities of the organization and in alignment with all SLAC’s internal policies including work planning, safety, and management and operation improvement initiatives.

Provide technical expertise to the operations team with focus on process and controls.Facilitate cross-functional collaboration and interface with engineers and the equipment maintenance team to ensure safe and optimal plant performance.

Perform resource planning, ensure personnel receive appropriate training, and support employee professional development.Develop the training program for the Cryogenic Operators, oversee and support the development of training materials, trainings sessions and qualifications.

Collaborate with the Maintenance Group for the development and execution maintenance management.To be successful in this position you will bring : Bachelor’s degree in electrical, chemical, process or mechanical engineering, or related technical field and 8 years of relevant supervisory and technical experience;

or combination of education and equivalent work experience.Minimum 4 years of experience supervising plant personnel to ensure a plant’s safe operation and equipment performance (helium, ASU, oil & gas, for example).

Minimum 4 years of experience as a process engineer or operation engineer, and in commissioning and / or plant operationStrong problem-solving skills and demonstrated ability to manage and resolve both personnel and technical issues and take corrective actions independently.

Experience applying quality assurance best practices to plant operation work including meticulous recording and documentation skills.

Demonstrated ability to collaborate across organizations and facilitate cross-functional efforts.Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to effectively convey complex technical concepts.

Ability to work and communicate effectively with both scientific and non-technical personnel in a collaborative and international environment.

Flexibility in working hours as required to ensure continuous operation of the plant.Preferred Qualifications : Experience in managing bargaining unit workers.
