Summary of Duties and Responsibilities :

The Frontline Essentials Instructor is the primary instructor responsible for delivery of training material for the pilot Social Services Sector Training (SSST) program.

The Instructor develops and delivers a high-quality curriculum for adults who are interested in working in the Social Services Sector.

The instructor provides classes, small group and individual study in all skills areas. The instructor works closely with the students, Job Center, and ECS staff to provide engaging, quality, student-centered classes.

This instructor will also deliver the Crisis Prevention Institute curriculum in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities :

Training and instruction :

  • Conducts individual and group instruction through in-person and virtual demonstration, lecture, and cooperative learning activities / project-based learning.
  • Structures classes and tutorials to meet individual students needs, both academic and personal.
  • Utilizes multi-sensory, interactive and LD appropriate teaching methods
  • Conducts including initial and on-going client skills assessments.
  • Skill areas include :

  • Shelter training
  • Housing First
  • DEI Concepts
  • Domestic Violence Prevention
  • Harm Reduction
  • Delivering Nonviolent Crisis Intervention training (CPI curriculum, training provided see below)
  • Intermediate computer skills (CRM Software applications)
  • Attends train-the-trainer (virtual or in-person) programming with the Crisis Prevention Institute in order to deliver their Nonviolent Crisis Intervention training to program participants during Module II
  • Develops innovative and appropriate lesson plans and class handouts in accordance with student needs and current educational standards.
  • Utilizes and modifies curriculum, selects course materials, and implements new components to courses. Documents course outlines and content.
  • Integrates technology and other workplace competencies into lesson plans.
  • Delivers instruction in systematic and comprehensive manner, so that students progress can be marked and documented.
  • Ensures that curriculum is appropriate to the needs of homeless adults and conducts student evaluations of materials.

Program Operations and Coordination :

  • with the Job Center, other ECS staff and leadership, partner community organizations, and the City, to structure and implement SSST programming that enhances occupational skills and job readiness.
  • Partners with Client Success Coach to ensure ongoing support for students throughout the program.
  • Substitutes for other teachers and computer classes when needed.
  • Coordinates curriculum and instruction with the other programs of the Job Center.
  • Participates as a team member with other teachers and staff for the design, implementation and evaluation of classes and program.
  • Attends scheduled department staff meetings and other meetings as required.

Administration :

  • Designs, initiates, and helps update Individualized Educational Plans (IEP) for all students in attendance more than two weeks.
  • Administers and interprets a range of standardized tests of academic achievement.
  • Maintains attendance and student performance records.
  • Completes student paperwork for OEWD and other funding sources.
  • Creates accurate and timely program reports when requested.
  • Document and track student gains and design curricula to facilitate student academic and life skill gains.

Supervision :

  • Coordinates, directs, and supervises volunteer tutors.
  • Assists management in interviewing and orienting new staff.
  • Maintains calm, engaging, and safe environment for students as all times.

Abides by ECS codes of confidentiality

Performs other related duties as required to facilitate the delivery of the education and CHEFS programs.

Qualifications

Requirements :

A Masters degree, plus a minimum of 3 years of recent, full-time, paid teaching experience working with adults, preferably experiencing, or at-risk of, homelessness.

Alternatively, BA in Education or related field plus 5 years of recent teaching experience working with a similar student body.

Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills required. Knowledge of different student learning styles.

Experience with a diverse, low-income population. Ability to adapt curriculum and lessons to the needs of homeless adults.

Knowledge of IBM, Office platforms.
