Regional Safety Manager
ColonialWebb is seeking a Regional Safety Manager to partner with the Executive Leadership team and other Regional Safety Managers to provide leadership for our growing company.
T he Regional Safety Manager will support a team that ensures compliance with state and federal OSHA regulations, work closely with employees who have lost time injuries to support return to work, and facilitate a culture of safety through care.

What you will do :
- The successful candidate must have a proven ability to mentor and develop personnel to meet the future needs of the organization
- Assist General Manager and Vice President in development of plans, systems, and training
- Provide oversight and jurisdiction in the how to of planning, deployment, and interpretation of safe practices, programs and procedures, support safety related planning, deployment, and interpretation of safe practices, programs, and procedures
- Hire, supervise, train, and develop Site Safety Specialists; assign Site Safety Specialists to job sites
- Maintain and review documents submitted from the field, (i.e., pre-task planning forms jobsite safety inspections, various permits)
- Accompany employees to medical facilities for follow-up appointments and drug / alcohol screenings; facilitate random drug tests
- Coordinate, conduct and oversee safety training to meet needs of field teammates
- Communicate with physicians, health care institutions and insurance carriers to maximize company case management initiatives
- Interface with OSHA and other industry personnel in the resolution and proactive identification of safety related incidents and practices;
coordinate all tasks and functions on site to ensure they are performed safely in accordance with company safety policies and procedures and OSHA standards
Conduct site visits / inspections of facilities, work areas and equipment; observe and document employee work practices and improve safety preparedness;
conduct job hazard analyses
Identify corrective actions necessary to bring job sites into compliance with applicable codes, laws, regulations, and standards, and explain these measures to others;
recommend and follow up to verify the implementation of corrective actions
- Inspect the availability, readiness, and proper use of required accident prevention procedures, safety and fire prevention equipment, protective clothing, and devices, and first aid supplies
- Identify and recommend safety equipment, material and supplies for work operations; enforce safe operations of construction equipment
- Attend and participate in safety committee meetings with sites and general contractors; serve as a resource on health and safety issues
- Manage reporting and investigations of workers compensation and general liability claims on jobsites
- Participate in all team incident investigations; conduct other functions to support the prevention of incidents and accidents and enforce the policies of the company
- Help administer incident prediction software; ensure correction and documentation of unsafe observations
- Manage and report safety data trends from Company software (i.e., safety data system, driving scores); analyze data and recommend changes for improvement
- Assist in development of safety communications
- Prepare Site Specific Safety Plans for new projects
- Oversee SDS program, to include document updates
- Lead and participate in necessary meetings (i.e., VOSH / OSHA visits and meetings, CWC Executive Steering Committee, OU Monthly Safety Steering Committee)
- Prepare and implement new and revised safety policies and procedures
- Assist with fleet management
What we are looking for :
- High school diploma or equivalent required, College degree preferred, but not required.
- Possess OSHA 500 certification. Professional certification : CSP / ASP / SMS / CHST / etc. is preferred
- Possess current First Aid / CPR / AED certification and ability to obtain Instructor status
- Possess 8 or more years experience in the safety field
- Possess certification in the safe operation of relevant construction equipment (i.e., powers tools, personal protective equipment, lifts, ladders)
- Ability to learn and enforce current corporate policies and procedures
- Ability to coordinate multiple direct reports to ensure adequate safety coverage on respective job sites
- Ability to enforce current Occupational Safety & Health regulations (Virginia AND Federal)
- Possess current knowledge of NFPA Standards applicable to the work operations
- Ability to learn current US Army Corps of Engineers Safety program (EM-385.1)
- Demonstrate strengths as an instructor to teach classes (i.e., general safety toolbox talks, in-depth certification classes) and / or certify teammates
- Knowledge of and ability to enforce safe operations of construction equipment
- Ability to obtain Train the Trainer certifications
- Ability to obtain Instructor status for DOT Intermediate Traffic Control operations
- Demonstrate proficiency using various computer software programs and applications
- Ability to read and understand project related documents in the English language
- Ability to communicate and deal effectively with teammates in other trades
- Ability to maintain a positive attitude and willing to work in a team environment
- Ability to work independently without direct supervision
- Ability to maintain a sense of urgency and remain calm when working toward deadlines
- Ability to work a flexible work schedule to include varying shifts, short notice assignments, emergencies, nights, weekends, and overtime (scheduled and unscheduled), as required
