The Role

Lumen offers a fully immersive, 10-week summer internship program. Our interns demonstrate curiosity, innovation, and a passion for advancing technology.

Location

This position will be hybrid in our Denver, CO office; potentially consider remote for the right candidate.

The Main Responsibilities

The Tax Analyst Intern will split their time between within the tax team, supporting both the tax controversy and transformation spaces, and the tax planning team.

This role offers a chance to gain experience in both the operational and strategic aspects of tax management and planning.

Key Responsibilities :

• Assist in handling all tax controversy matters for the company, excluding property tax. This includes federal, state, local income, transactional, and franchise taxes.
• Participate in various levels of audits across several jurisdictions, including federal audits.
• Contribute to automation and transformation projects for the tax group, involving workflows and the use of automation tools like Power BI.
• Conduct tax research in the Internal Revenue Code and accompanying Treasury regulations.
• Review and summarize tax workpapers to evaluate and explore tax positions.
• Participate in calls with Accounting, Corp Development, Legal on various tax issues.

What We Look For in a Candidate

Program eligibility is contingent on the candidate’s commitment of the entire 10-week program. No exceptions will be made.

• Required qualifications
• Enrolled at a 4-year accredited college or university, rising senior level education status at the start of the internship
• Graduating August 2025 May 2027
• Preferred fields include but not limited to : Finance, Accounting or related field.
• Intern must be able to work 40 hours per week during the 10-week program (May 30 August 8, 2025)
• US work authorization is required. Individuals needing visa sponsorship are not eligible.
• Proficiency and understanding of :
• Interest in Corporate Tax
• Familiarity with online research tools such as CCH
• Familiarity with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Power BI
• Familiarity with Alteryx.
• Knowledge of SAP is a plus.
• Ability to learn tax research tools during the internship.

Compensation

Internship compensation ranges depend on each individual’s level of education, geographic location, and experience / qualifications aligned to the role.

Hourly Based Pay Range :

Min : $22.00 / hour

Max : $35.00 / hour

What to Expect Next

Individual pay is based on skills, experience and other relevant factors.

This position is eligible for either short-term incentives or sales compensation. Director and VP positions also are eligible for long-term incentive.
