The MIDB is dedicated to fostering the healthy brain function of children across the lifespan with the mission to set and maintain a healthy trajectory for all children toward positive life outcomes through early neurobehavioral and mental health assessment, innovative targeted interventions, informed policy-making, compassionate child advocacy, and community education.

The Otto Bremer Trust Positive Behavior Program is a clinical research program serving ages 5 to 21 years with autism and related neurodevelopmental disabilities who have serious aggression and / or self-injury.

The program targets children and young adults with intellectual disability and significant communication needs. Interventions use a parent / caregiver coaching model where interventions are designed and implemented collaboratively with families / care teams.

Position Purpose : The primary function of the BCBA interventionist is to design, deliver, and evaluate evidence-based interventions to children and young adults with autism and related neurodevelopmental disabilities (ages 5 to 21 years old).

The BCBA interventionist will work with a team including a psychologist, social work care coordinator, behavior technicians, and trainees.

Children receiving intervention also may have psychiatrists and other medical providers within the MIDB who will consult with the intervention team.

Job Duties

95% Interventionist and supervision of intervention implementation

  • The BCBA interventionist will oversee a caseload of 5-10 families in active intervention or follow-up.
  • Conduct functional behavior assessments and functional analysis with children and families, including outreach to educational and community services child is receiving.
  • Participate in multiple service delivery settings (home, school, community, supervision, direct support, parent training).
  • Design intensive intervention programs, individualized to child's needs, using evidence-based models that allow each client the opportunity to excel.
  • Implement interventions directly with parents / caregivers and their children using parent / caregiver coaching.
  • Design data collection tools for individual child progress monitoring.
  • Summarize, review, and interpret data and use this data to inform intervention strategies, in collaboration with parents / caregivers.
  • Provide consultation and coaching to educational and community service providers as child transitions from active intervention.
  • Consult with Clinical Supervisors to maintain quality of cases through ABA data analysis and collaborate on implementing data-driven program changes.
  • Provide direct / indirect supervision to behavior technicians and interns implementing interventions.
  • Conduct assessments and train support staff.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with intervention team and broader MIDB care team.

5% Research

  • Attend research team meetings and advisory committee meetings to strategize on design and analysis.
  • Contribute to data analysis and interpretation, manuscript preparation, and dissemination (including presentations at scientific and community engagement meetings).

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • BA / BS with at least 6 years of experience or advanced degree with 4 years of experience.
  • Be a board certified behavior analyst (BCBA) through the Behavior Analyst Certification Board, Inc. (BACB) or have a master's degree from an accredited college or university in behavioral health, child development or a related field and have completed either :
  • At least 2,000 hours of clinical experience and / or training in the treatment of people with autism or a related condition.
  • The equivalent in graduate-level coursework at an accredited university in autism or related condition diagnostics, autism or related condition treatment strategies, or child development.
  • Experience conducting functional behavior assessment with children with autism and related conditions with severe to profound intellectual disability.
  • Experience providing intervention via parent / caregiver coaching.
  • Experience providing interventions using functional communication training and naturalistic developmental behavioral approaches.
  • Must be knowledgeable of professional and ethical clinical standards regarding the delivery of professional mental health services in general.
  • Must be effective in working within a team structure and have strong computer skills and demonstrable effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must pass all criminal background checks as required by the State of Minnesota to be eligible to work with children and vulnerable adults.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Board certified behavior analyst-doctoral (BCBA-D).
  • Experience conducting experimental functional analysis with children with autism and related conditions with severe to profound intellectual disability.
  • Working knowledge of regulations associated with human-participants research.
  • Experience managing and troubleshooting technology resources.
  • Experience with or training in trauma-informed care.
  • Fluent in Spanish.
