Incoming Yard Inspector

JOB TITLE : Incoming Inspector

REPORTS TO : Operations Manager

JOB TYPE : Full-Time, non-exempt

LOCATION : 3175 Lake Shore Rd. Buffalo NY, 14219

HOURS : Monday - Friday 7 : 30 AM-4 : 00 PM

COMPENSATION : $17-19 / hr, based on skills and experience.

PURPOSE :

The incoming inspector position supports plant operations by inspecting the incoming loads for non-conforming materials.

They are also responsible for directing the flow of traffic to ensure safe unloading practices. Will perform other duties as directed by management.

RESPONSIBILITIES :

• Ensures a safe work environment for self and others at all times.
• Keeps management aware of any delays or discrepancies.
• Keeps yard clean, well-organized, and safe.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding and carry out simple one or two-step instructions.
• Incoming / communicating with the yard personnel.
• Ensure that quality, environmental, and safety standards of Metalico Inc. for production, customers, and employees are consistently achieved.
• Inspect loads for non-conforming materials and communicate with operators and drivers to ensure safe unloading practices of materials.
• Inspect scrap load to identify prohibited items, assign correct commodity codes, and assign deductions according to best practices.
• Inspect customer materials for liquids, non-metallic materials, and other non-acceptable materials (i.e. Propane tanks, PCBs, batteries, etc.)
• Identify and record inspection data to include weight, grade, content, and quantity of scrap material.
• Ensure customers drop the correct material in the correct designated areas.
• Direct drivers to drop-off location(s).
• Communicate via 2-way radio with the Weigh Master and yard personnel.
• Cross-train in other tasks as needed.
• Must be able to perform a variety of tasks in all kinds of weather / seasons.
• Required to wear PPE (safety-toed boots, hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, etc.)

QUALIFICATIONS :

• High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Able to operate bobcats, forklifts, and loaders a plus.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs. and stand for long periods of time.
• Knowledge of the various ferrous and non-ferrous metals is a plus.
• Quick learner who can follow directions.
• Good communication skills.
• Team player.
• Organized, consistent, and good at multitasking.
• Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation to work.
• Prior to hire - must be able to pass a pre-employment physical, drug screening, and criminal background check.
