Position : Manufacturing Engineer

Position Overview

Are you a problem solver with excellent technical and troubleshooting skills? Are you the kind of engineer that enjoys fine tuning and optimizing your equipment and endeavors to really understand how it works?

Are you intrigued by a mix of hands-on work, troubleshooting, and document writing? We’re looking for an entry level Manufacturing Applications Engineer who can take ownership of sustaining engineering and support for our preclinical product.

In this role, you will develop expert knowledge in our technology, Magnetic Particle Imaging (MPI) and use it to bring-up and qualify new imagers.

You will develop and refine system bring-up and verification methods by designing and executing engineering studies internally in our Alameda, CA manufacturing floor, working closely with the engineering and production team to learn and provide sustaining engineering support when needed.

In the near-term, you will gain expertise in MPI to support operations, production, and customer support. In the long term you will own the scanner bring-up process and implement sustaining improvements.

As a startup, we all wear many hats and there is an expectation to bring energy and enthusiasm to this role in helping customers as well as colleagues.

This role will primarily focus on in-house engineering, with sone additional responsibilities including customer support.

This position is an excellent chance to refine your engineering and technical abilities while also developing customer-facing experience.

Education and Experience Requirements

Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Bio, or Systems Engineering; or degree in an equivalent field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in a manufacturing engineering role, preferably with a focus on electrical systems.
  • Demonstrate strong electronics skills with diagnostic tools, e.g., multimeters, oscilloscopes.
  • Proficient in Python and basic software programming. Must be fluent in English.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot and debug electrical systems
  • Strong understanding of engineering principles and the ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and requirements.

Preferred

  • Experience working with medical imaging equipment (MRI, CT, PET, etc.).
  • Experience in field service engineering, test engineering, or systems engineering.
  • Familiarity with product lifecycle management (PLM) software and documentation control systems.
  • Experience with embedded systems design and programming.
  • Experience with New Product Introduction (NPI) processes

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (In addition to those listed, other duties may be assigned.)

  • Develop and document QC testing procedures, including test methods, acceptance criteria, and reporting protocols.
  • Support the production of new scanners, including conducting bring-up, verification testing, and troubleshooting issues.
  • Write production SOPs, maintain detailed technical documentation, work instructions and aid the production team in refining the build process.
  • Keep in-house systems maintained and operational.
  • Support customer technical support, debugging, and training.
  • Support and train distributor service engineers
  • Coordinate with software and hardware engineering teams to solve manufacturing and support issues.
  • Prepare detailed reports on process deviations, quality issues, and corrective actions.
  • Receive and review engineering change requests (ECRs) submitted by stakeholders, ensuring completeness and accuracy of information.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to assess the potential impact of proposed changes on product designs, manufacturing processes, quality, and schedules.
  • Support the production team in electro-mechanical assemblies as needed
  • Team lift up to 50 pounds

Travel and Vehicle Requirements

Domestic and International travel expected, up to 20% of the time.

Reports to : Operations Manager

Classification : Full-time, salaried, exempt

Schedule : Regular full-time working hours, ability to work evening hours and overtime as needed. Required to occasionally work during normal business hours in international time zones.

Workplace Location : This position is on-site full time at our office in Alameda, CA. After the 90-day introductory period, partial remote work may be granted as agreed upon with the employee’s manager.
