Sanitation Driver

The City of Takoma Park is seeking a Sanitation Driver to drive a refuse packer truck and recycling vehicle in providing trash and recycling collection for the City.

Our drivers alsoassistthe techniciansin collection of recyclablesand waste on the assigned route. The incumbent mayalso serveas a lead worker.

Typical duties include :

• Drivingthe refuse packer truck or recycling vehicle on assigned routes; assistingtechnicians in pickingup refuse or recyclable products such as newspapers, card board, glass, cans, etc.;
• Performingroutine maintenance on truck by checking gas, oil, tires, battery and packer oil. Reportingall maintenance and equipment problems as necessary;
• May carryout lead worker responsibilities including : training in job skills, assigning and directing work, making recommendations in performance appraisal, and reporting problems to supervisor;
• Respondingto questions pertaining to trash from the general public;
• Servingas a relief driver for the Right of Way Division forsnow and ice response duringweather events;
• Performingother related duties as assigned.

The minimum qualifications are :

• High School diploma or GED; and,
• Two to three years of progressively responsible related experience; or,
• Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job;
• Valid Commercial Driver's License.

The hourly wage for this position is expected to be between $21.48 and $25.30 and will be offered at a level consistent with the experience and qualifications of the candidate.

This position is subject to membership in the AFSCME union.
