ABOUT THE POSITION The Riverside University Health System - Medical Center (RUHS-MC) is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Sterile Processing Technician to join our healthcare team with the Central Services and Supply Department.

The incumbent will be responsible for assembling, cleaning, and sterilizing medical instruments and equipment to ensure the highest standards of patient safety.

This position requires extensive knowledge of sterile processing procedures and a commitment to maintaining a sterile environment.

Qualifications : Previous experience in sterile processing is preferred. Knowledge of sterile processing techniques and infection control standards.

Certification as a Sterile Processing Technician (CSPDT or CRCST) is a plus. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for long periods.

org EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Inspect, test, clean, decontaminate, and sterilize returned reusable medical equipment and surgical equipment, supplies, and instrumentation, ensuring all parts have been returned and are operable, selecting appropriate cleaning agents and decontamination and sterilization processes;

perform minor maintenance and repairs on medical equipment as needed.

Identify and assemble medical and surgical instrumentation and supplies using count sheets; package in accordance with sterilization technique to be used;

generate and attach labels and billing codes; sterilize, and if required, aerate.

Assemble instruments and supplies for surgery or case / specialty cart procedures using pick lists; distribute sterilized supplies and patient care equipment, maintaining required inventory levels throughout hospital and clinics;

check the correctness of requisitions and accuracy of inventory and issue supplies; issue prescribed medical supplies and equipment to patients.

  • Create and maintain accurate equipment tracking, inventory, sterilization, and testing records and logs using a computer, laser wand, or scanner for barcode entry; run reports.
  • Store and maintain all sterile supplies and respiratory therapy equipment; stock and maintain processing areas; clean and test sterilizers;

keep storage areas clean and orderly; inspect, fold and stack sterilized linen.

  • Ensure that department policies and procedures are followed.
  • Provide vacation and temporary relief as required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Sterile Processing Technician I : Pay Range : $18.

40 to $24.58 per hour Education : Graduation from high school, possession of a Certificate of Proficiency issued by the California State Board of Education, or attainment of a satisfactory score on a G.E.D.

examination. Experience : None required. Knowledge of : The more common medical equipment and instruments used in a hospital setting.

Ability to : Learn aseptic and sterile techniques; learn the terminology of parts and supplies associated with area of assignment;

follow oral and written directions; work cooperatively with others; keep simple records. Sterile Processing Technician II : Pay Range : $19.

41 to $25.94 per hour Education : Graduation from high school, possession of a Certificate of Proficiency issued by the California State Board of Education, or attainment of a satisfactory score on a G.E.D.

examination. Experience : One year of experience equivalent to the County of Riverside Sterile Processing Technician I or above with responsibility for sterilizing, preparing and issuing medical equipment.

Knowledge of : Medical equipment, supplies and instruments used in an acute care hospital setting; aseptic and sterilization techniques.

Ability to : Follow oral and written directions; work cooperatively with others; keep simple records. Other Requirements for Sterile Processing Technician II : A minimum of one of the following certifications is required for Sterile Processing Technician II :

  • International Association of Health Care Services Material Management (IAHCSMM)
  • Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD)
  • National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA)
  • Association of Surgical Technologists (AST) Possession of a valid California Driver's License may be required. Physical Requirements : Ability to stand for extended periods.

See the list here . MISCELLANEOUS RETIREMENT : County of Riverside has three retirement Tiers through the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS).

Tier I (Classic Member - Formula 3% @ 60) : Applicable to current and former County of Riverside local miscellaneous employees hired prior to 08 / 24 / 2012 and did not withdraw CalPERS contributions.

The employee contribution is eight (8%) percent.

Tier II (Classic Member - Formula 2% @ 60) : Applicable to local miscellaneous employees 1) hired after 08 / 23 / 2012 through 12 / 31 / 2012;

2) Previously employed with another CalPERS contracting public agency or a reciprocal retirement system, with a break in service of less than six months between the separation date with the previous employer and the appointment date with the County of Riverside.

The employee contribution is seven (7%) percent.

Tier III (PEPRA New Member - Formula 2% @ 62) : Applicable to CalPERS local miscellaneous new members hired on or after the implementation of the Public Employees' Pension Reform Act of 2013 (PEPRA) which took effect January 1, 2013.

Effective July 1, 2023 employee contributions are 7.25% and will increase to 7.75% effective July 1, 2024. A new member is defined as any of the following : A new hire who enters CalPERS membership for the first time on or after January 1, 2013, and who has no prior membership in any California Public Retirement System.

A new hire who enters CalPERS membership for the first time on or after January 1, 2013, and who was a member with another California Public Retirement System prior to that date, but who is not subject to reciprocity upon joining CalPERS.

A member who first established CalPERS membership prior to January 1, 2013, and who is rehired by a different CalPERS agency after a break in service of greater than six (6) months.

CalPERS refers to all members that do not fit within the definition of a new member as "classic members". Contribution rates are subject to change based on the County of Riverside annual actuarial valuation.

2 additional days can be taken from accrued Sick Leave balance) BASIC LIFE INSURANCE : Equal to one times annual base salary not to exceed $50,000 of term life coverage.

Premiums are paid by the County.

Additional Supplemental Life plan is available for employee purchase. DISABILITY : Short-term Disability benefit pays up to a maximum of $461.

54 weekly, payable up to a maximum of 52 weeks. POST RETIREMENT MEDICAL CONTRIBUTION : A monthly contribution is made by the County towards retiree health insurance offered through the County as governed by the applicable Memorandum of Understanding.

OTHER : There may be other benefit provisions as specified in the applicable Memorandum of Understanding.
