Job Summary

Reporting to the Executive Director of Development, serves as Director of Advancement for the O'Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs providing vision and leadership for the O'Neill School's advancement strategy and activities including supervision of stewardship and donor relations, alumni engagement, annual fund, data management, and the Alumni Advisory Council.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Ensures that advancement activity in alumni relations and events is strategic and closely aligned with O'Neill's goals and priorities.
  • Provides vision and strategic leadership for an integrated alumni engagement program in support of the mission of O'Neill.
  • Assists O'Neill, its programs, and institutes in implementing, building and maintaining broad alumni engagement that involves increasing participation rates of alumni.

This includes overseeing the Alumni Advisory Council and helping to plan their meetings.

Designs and implements a comprehensive annual fund strategy that ensures a pipeline of annual donors for O'Neill, including.

tracking progress towards goals and documenting business processes.

  • Develops and implements improvements to the stewardship program for O'Neill, expanding the impact of stewardship as part of O'Neill's development program.
  • Reviews personalized stewardship plans for high-level donors and ensure robust, effective systems for stewarding multiple donors to general or specialized funds.
  • In partnership with the Executive Director and the Office of Marketing and Communications team, develops plans, communications, and systems in support of O'Neill that encourage integration and success of all areas of advancement, stewardship, alumni engagement, major and corporate gifts, annual funds, communications, events as well as supporting business and administrative services.
  • Supervises advancement staff in Bloomington and Indianapolis.

General Responsibilities

  • Leads and implements large-scale advancement initiatives with key stakeholders and leaders in the public and private sector.
  • Identifies potential opportunities and cultivates relationships engaging with relevant stakeholders to develop project scope.
  • Develops deep understanding of related issues, assets, and opportunities to formulate project outcomes in collaboration with unit leadership and partners.

Stay currents on emerging needs.

  • Matches identified needs with university academic and operational experts as well as external assets and resources.
  • Manages budgets; may supervise staff in project operations.
  • Serves as a primary point of contact on project needs and priorities interacting with diverse constituencies.
  • Develops and maintains systems for selecting, tracking, and assessing projects and their outcomes and impact.
  • May provide guidance to lower-level Institutional Advancement Consultants.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Required

Bachelor's degree in related field

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

5 years experience in outreach, engagement, public relations, or related field

Preferred

Supervisory experience and personnel management, including delegating tasks and managing performance

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment.

The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Work Location

Indianapolis or Bloomington, Indiana

This position is eligible to work a hybrid schedule (mix between remote and in-person work), subject to change in the future based on university policy and business needs.

Advertised Salary

$70,000 - $75,000 per year based on experience
