Job Summary :

As the Youth Drug Prevention Educator at Annie Malone Children & Family Services, your primary responsibility will be to implement evidence-based LifeSkills and Second Step Curriculum in K-12 classrooms.

You will work closely with students, educators, and parents to increase mental health awareness and equip students with coping skills to prevent the use of marijuana, alcohol, and tobacco.

This position provides a unique opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of students by promoting healthy choices and preventing substance abuse.

Key Responsibilities :

Curriculum Delivery :

  • Implement the LifeSkills and Second Step Curriculum in K-12 classrooms, following program guidelines and objectives.
  • Adapt curriculum materials to meet the specific needs of students and the school environment.
  • Facilitate engaging and interactive lessons focused on mental health awareness, drug prevention, and coping skills.

Student Engagement :

  • Build rapport with students, creating a safe and supportive learning environment.
  • Promote active participation and discussion, encouraging students to express their thoughts and concerns.
  • Provide one-on-one support to students as needed.

Collaboration :

  • Work closely with school educators and administrators to integrate prevention programs into the school curriculum.
  • Collaborate with parents and guardians to support the reinforcement of curriculum concepts at home.
  • Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and workshops as required.

Data Collection and Reporting :

  • Collect data and maintain accurate records related to program participation and outcomes.
  • Prepare regular reports on program progress and student achievements.
  • Use data to assess the effectiveness of the prevention programs and make recommendations for improvement.

Qualifications :

  • High School Diploma required; Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Experience working with K-12 students in a classroom or educational setting.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based prevention programs.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and group facilitation skills.
  • Passion for mental health awareness and substance abuse prevention.
  • Ability to engage and connect with students effectively.
  • Reliable transportation to travel to different school locations.

Working Conditions

This position may require working off-site for events and meetings. Assigned hours are at the discretion of the program director.

Physical Requirements

The Youth Drug Prevention Educator must be able to spend extended periods of time sitting, standing, walking for extended periods of time as well as operating a computer.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate effectively. The physical requirements of this job include sitting standing, walking;

lifting up to 100 lbs, pulling and / or pushing on occasion.
