Position description

The Department of Sociology at the University of California, Irvine invites applications for a pool of temporary, part-time Lecturers to teach a course (or courses) for the upcoming openings during the 2024-2025 and 2025-2026 academic years.

Topics may include, but are not limited to the following :

• Introduction to Sociology
• Sociological Methods and Theory
• Criminology; Law; Drug Use; Incarceration
• Labor
• Population; Birth and Death; Life Cycle
• Communication; Information; Media; Social Media
• Social Networks
• Social Support; Community
• Social Work

Courses may include, but are not limited to the following :

• Introduction to Sociology (Sociology 1)
• Globalization and Transnational Sociology (Sociology 2)
• City and Community (Sociology 43)
• Social Work (Sociology 79)
• Social Networks and Social Support (Sociology 143)
• Births, Deaths, and Migration (Sociology 44)

Interested candidates should submit :

A PhD is required by time of appointment.

The review process will begin August 12, 2024, but screening will continue until the positions are filled and / or department needs are met, with a final closing date of May 31, 2025.

Screening of applicants is ongoing and will continue as needed. The pool will close on May 31, 2025; if you would like to continue to be considered after that time, and the pooled position is advertised again, you will need to submit a new application.

Salary will be based on UCI salary scales and qualifications.

Please note : The department maintains a lecturer pool from which we draw lecturers as our needs arise; a position in the pool doesn't guarantee an offer to teach a course, nor does it obligate a pool member to accept the department's offer to teach a class.
