POSITION DESCRIPTION : Serves as chief spokesperson for District Six. Responsible for supervising and coordinating staff in responding to media and public inquiries, which includes serving as the media contact and giving interviews.

Monitors district print, broadcast and web-based media for Department-related coverage and drafts responses when appropriate.

Oversees the production of daily news clips for Central Office and District Leadership. Presents programs to civic clubs and other governmental and private organizations.

Serves as the District Government Affairs Liaison. Monitors local government and metropolitan planning organizations’ activities and attends meetings as necessary.

Coordinates legislative issues with Central Office staff, including Florida Department of Transportation's (FDOT) Chief of Staff and the Legislative Affairs Director.

Assists District management and Central Office staff with proposed legislative language reviews. Coordinates any District Secretary / Legislator meetings as necessary.

Works with the office of Program Management to prepare an overview of FDOT projects to provide to legislators and their staff prior to each year's legislative session.

Forecasts communication needs annually, establishes, and maintains the Public Information Plan to ensure these needs are met.

Interviews, hires, and supervises all public information office staff. Manages PIO consultant contracts, including reviewing invoices and public involvement activities.

Plans and liaises with consultant public involvement and / or public information staff. Reviews, edits, and approves consultant news releases, brochures, and other related materials.

Develops annual budget for equipment and information related expenditures. Submits budget proposals and oversees budget expenditures as they relate to the public information program.

Researches, writes, edits, and disseminates information concerning district operations to various media utilizing print and broadcast methods, which includes news releases, features stories, photography, and public service announcements, as well as use of social media.

Coordinates with Central Office as needed regarding media inquiries. Consults with district managers concerning public information issues.

Gathers data and drafts correspondence for the Governor’s Office, Secretary of Transportation, and District staff.

Oversees the design and production of printed materials such as brochures, pamphlets, and handouts distributed by the Public Information Office, project consultants and the public involvement team.

Develops scripts for slide shows, video presentations, and other mass media presentations. Oversees special projects such as project openings, news conferences, seminars, workshops, tours, etc.

Serves as the Title Six Program Area Officer, working with the District Title Six Coordinator to ensure compliance. Coordinates with the State Title VI Coordinator as needed regarding Federal Highway review of District Title VI program, provides Quarterly Title VI Reports, and attends a minimum of one public meeting / hearing per quarter to monitor compliance with Title VI and related statues.

Assists with the resolution of Title VI complaints as needed.

Coordinates with staff and consultants regarding the district website to ensure content is accurate and up to date. Updates FDOT.

gov as needed, including ensuring District Six staff information is correct and public meetings notices are uploaded to the District Six Public Notice page accurately and in a timely manner.

Develops and conducts training for district staff on dealing with the media and giving effective presentations. Provides these courses for other Department staff as requested.
